Took a fun picture of several brushes; my Thater Silvertip, Zenith Manchurian, Kent BLK4 and the Peerless Pure Badger.

Some old stored away brushes see the light of day again.
Got a few old brushes cleaned up so they can be used again. A few more still soaking. http://www.fototime.com/53F9C24B94E86C3/large.jpg From the left: an Unknown boar; a Surrey Boar (Surrey was later bought by Van der Hagen); EverReady 100 Boar; a Century Pure Badger, EverReady 300PBT Badger; MadeRi...

Looks good. I still have some brushes that have been around longer than I want to admit.

Re: DE razors which are consider more aggressive than mild
Italian Barber's twist to open Baili razor. First shave. Forgot how nimble DE razors are with regard to blade buffing and trimming sideburns and goatees. Miles ahead of the multi bladed razors. I felt that this was a very mild razor but it shaved me as close as the Hawk I used and the Harry's four-...

Really glad you are doing this; I've been pleasantly surprised by my aluminum Hawk but only Feather AC Pro blades so far.

Re: Why buy Simpsons brushes?
Hi Guys, This is probably my first view of the forums for a about a year. Hope those of you that I chatted with previously are keeping well. I've read more negatives than positives in regards to 'why buy Simpson brushes'. Real shame as so much hard work was put in for some many years by my family t...

Looks like a Weishi 9306. Actually a pretty nice inexpensive razor.

Re: DE razors which are consider more aggressive than mild
Saw Maggards V3a. Maybe a bit more aggressive and I can choose a handle. Anyone got experience with V3 or V3a? The V3 is a bit cheaper and the V3a comes in grey matte. Looking at the M18 handle I like that and the Twist to open Baili they have there (maybe its just me and the styling?) I think it, ...

Re: DE razors which are consider more aggressive than mild
Quiet, isn't it?
Some of the three and two piece razors are somewhat more aggressive but not by much until you get up in the higher price range. There are the EJ DE89 series but it's still relatively mild. There is the Merkur 34c and 23C but again, relatively mild.

Re: DE razors which are consider more aggressive than mild
Weishi 9306, Feather Popular and Viking Chieftain (Bali? ) are all about like a Gillette Super Speed, pretty mild.

Re: Gillette flare tip vs black handle tip vs blue tip
I prefer my later '70 back handle SS to my early Flare and even my Aristocrat. Jar What do you mean you prefer the 7o's black handle to regular super speed? Are they both has the same blade gap? Do the regular and black handle SS are both mild but how mild is it? Chris It's a matter of head width I...

Re: Learning from a box ...
The Techs cleaned up nicely and perform just about the same as my post-war Techs. BUT...the GEM was a real revelation for me. I'd tried razors like the Schick injector (ok but not really close to great) but the GEM was intuitive and the very first use gave me one of the most pleasant shaves I've had...

And here is what was in the box: Three pre-war fat handle Gillette Techs, two Rolls Razor Imperials, one Rolls Viscount, two Valet Autostrops (one V1 & 1 V2 that appears never used) and a Gem Damaskeene. http://www.fototime.com/C18E189B195016C/large.jpg http://www.fototime.com/57A5BDEBD528B0C/la...

Re: Ok, sold DE, now I need to start over
I appreciate the time it must have taken. Very interesting to see the detailed side by side comparison. In the box I was talking about were three pre-war fat handle Techs. All the Techs I owned were post-war so it will be interesting to see if sizes and weights are similar and to compare the shaves...

Re: Ok, sold DE, now I need to start over
Jar, thanks for all the useful information. That's a nice collection of stats. - Murray Thanks. Blame it on a career in IT. But I really need to redo the table and simply round the numbers, as is two of the same model can show entirely different weights and measures. The next iteration will take th...

Learning from a box ...
As some of you may know I've been rummaging through storage boxes lately. While looking for the pipes (smoking kind) I know I own but that were not exactly where I know I put them I did find a box full of old razors and other stuff. I've been restoring the old razors and trying to work them into the...
