In my experience I can produce good lathers from practically any soap or cream, even ones costing less than €1 (~$1,50) per tube, which all feel slick, and all have plenty of cushion. I practice, if necessary a few times, to see how much water and soap I need before I actually shave myself with a ne...

I'd say your first guess was correct, the lather was over moisturized and improved as it dried. Lather drying so rapidly in the time it takes to shave a single pass? I don't buy that. Perhaps in a hot, dry desert wind, but not in the enclosed area of a bathroom (where I assume the shaving activity ...

Two almonds-size worth of cream, with a brush nearly shaken dry and two tiny drops of water, plus the moisture on your face...? You shaved with nearly pure shaving cream, and did not create a lather at all. The first pass the blade had to travel in a mixture of cream and stubble, so you couldn't act...

No more water straight from the hot tap (over here where I live it is so hot I can't put my hand in it, but my face can tolerate it---barely), but instead rather warm, about the same temperature I shower with. Today I didn't shave straight out of the shower so I had to prep the beard the old fashion...

Mostly in scent, really. I never really liked the Palmolive scent, although the shaves I got out of it were quite good. Unless, of course, I tried for a 2-day routine, then my neck would take objection. But with hidsight that had to be due to bad technique---I can easily tolerate a 2-day routine now...

Actually, I'm not starting out, as I've been wet shaving for over 20 years now. I was getting rather worried about the encroachment of canned goo which didn't do me much good in the regular shops, and not knowing how to use soap tablets instead. From one thing came the other---lathers rivalling swee...

What happens when using too hot water when prepping?
An odd question perhaps, but one which puzzles me a little bit. Is it possible for water to be too hot when prepping the beard? It would appear that if I prep my beard after coming out of the shower with hot water from the tap cooled to the point where my hands are just able to stand it, the skin on...
