Re: My second First-time root canal

Aside from childbirth pain, which most of us will never experience, I was told that tooth pain is the worst most of us will ever experience. Having suffered from acute pancreatitis, I originally thought that improbable. People who have endured kidney or bladder stones will probably argue with me, bu...

Re: Questions about Aftershave Balm and Aftershave Slash/Col

To me, it makes more sense to use a clear liquid scented after shave first, letting it dry/evaporate, then applying my Clinique for Men Post Shave Soother (a light milky emulsion which soothes and lightly moisturizes). I get fragrance and a bit of skin treatment. The reverse would mean you are using...

Re: My Dad

There will never be a generation to match your (and my) dad's!

The passing of one of its members is therefore a loss of a major treasure not only to his
family, but to the rest of us as well. We are all diminished and should all mourn, as I do with you.

Re: Cartridge Razors - 5

Dominic, Having reread your post twice, still can't figure out if you used the MR3 in the fixed or pivoting mode. (Though I inferred from your comments, like me, the pivoting option didn't seem to tempt you). In the fixed mode, and averaging 2 - 2 1/2 passes per shave, 7-8 face shaves seemed optimal...

Squire, as usual once you launch into a subject, your vast knowledge and experience can enlighten anyone. Thanks! For me, rye has always been a mixed drink kind of liquor and hence I rarely buy anything remotely expensive. My dad was a "boilermaker" kind of guy.... a big shot of rye follow...

Re: an orgy of questions

I am personally curious about the shaving habits of SMF members so I am tossing out a number of random questions off the top of my head. This is not a survey for anyone but I thought some of us might be interested in how SMF members answer them ... if members do respond. So, answer any of them you ...

Re: Rain hats???

For me, the choice in a "rain hat" is my Akubra fur felt "Australian Slouch" hat. 3 1/4" brim, comes with chin strap for wind-driven rain. The felt has enormous ability to absorb rain water but must be allowed to dry naturally. You can wear it in any weather; it's naturally ...

Good for you, Sam. Maybe on another trip you'll meet a woman who might share more
of your "outdoor" interests. I've seen that happen!
All the best,

Re: Alum Blocks?

I have had difficulty accepting that the alum block "lets me know" how "good" my shave was. If "good" is strictly restricted to how much irritation I managed to generate, yes the sting of alum will signal it. So will an application of an alcohol- based aftershave, which...

Re: Hurricane Arthur has basically passed SE NC beaches ...

SW of the Cape, in New Bedford, an historic whaling town, and Fall River, 7-8" of rain fell. Severe highway flooding, of course. The "Islands," Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, experienced wind gusts of 70 mph and reported significant wind damage. Our luck continued: 6 hours of steady...

Re: Hurricane Arthur has basically passed SE NC beaches ...

Here on Cape Cod we are still waiting for the storm to hit.
Right now, the proverbial calm before the storm.
Glad to hear you guys have so far seem to have survived the worst of it; hoping it will be
no worse for those yet to feel its effects!
Waiting is never any fun!
Good Luck!

Basil,
Can't speak to the Aspen A/S, but several gentlemen here are fans of the
Stephans Brushless cream. My barber carries it so maybe one day I'll try it.
