Pauldog, how many knives and what exactly is it you want to do? There's lots of options but it all depends on your wants and desires. If less than $20 is expensive, I'd suggest a plastic "spine" off a loose sheet binder from an office supply store. It'll wear out faster but it'll still gui...

Well, after a rushed start on my first Feather Artists shave yesterday (interupted by a shaving cream delivery no less) the second pass was not perfect, a few nicks but I think only because I rushed and started treating it like my other dull straights. Todays Christmas shave was a royal treat. A gre...

Well... seeing Bernd is watching this.... I am absolutely in love with the Shavemac 220... only I wish it was in Tortoise. I can live with ivory if I have to but darn... that would be a mighty fine looking brush and I do believe one of our more distinguished members finds the 220 a very fine brush i...

Aw crap... Ray, I have not had the chance to get to know you but your website has been my guide to better shaving and without a doubt is proof of your great character. In the spirit of my ancestors, the Vikings, I tell you now, we shall sing songs and tell sagas of your accomplishments, not just tod...

Two updates: 1. I have now used a second Feather DE blade and the thing gives me 3 great shaves but on the S/N pass of shave number 4 it nicks me in several spots within a small area... just like the first blade. No razor burn or the weeping thing, these are small nicks and I suspect they are relate...

Jvan, please do check and see if you can coax the answer from him. I've not bothered Charles as I know his busy as h*ck with xmas orders..... The handles and the light bulb shape of the bristles do appear to be of Shavemac origin to me.

I do one of those split things, I portion off whatever cream I'm using into a commerical kitchen ceramic "pinch bowl", I heat the brush in a smaller heavy walled stoneware cup size vessel, I then take the brush, shake out excess water and go around the pinch bowl just long enough to pick u...

I always look for the good in any situation. In this case, I was going to have to pass on the SMF brush because of the time lines and my current budget (some fool cult leading dr. had me buying all sorts of straight razor stuff  ) but now that the brush has been delayed there's a good chanc...

I'm a firm believer in the capillary action and the fact that brushmakers put a flat end on the handle so it can stand up straight. I would just make sure to shake out as much as I can, then either stand it up or hang it from a stand, your choice.

Uhhh... yes I did Tony, and so far the gods seem to have no particular beef with me. :D Perhaps I should have said Tub and Shower cleaner... this is the stuff you clean the soapscum off the shower walls/doors etc. with. I was a bit concerned using it the first time but it worked so darn well I feel ...

On my SR-208 I find that after rinsing the brush out and shaking all the water I can out of it I have a few hairs that stick out almost 90 degrees from the rest of the brush... these seem to pull back in as the brush dries. I leave mine on the counter, handle down and I don't worry about it (any mor...

(although Mulroney was guilty here too).... a way to 'pay-back' the party faithful... make them a Senator (for life) or a judge. Then there are taxes, the so-called FREE TRADE Agreement which took a lot of jobs south, Jeez, you forgot the GST that Cretien was going to abolish... well, until Martin ...

Postings in the last 24hrs or some such?

Just wondering if there would be be a way to add a button to search for posts made in the last 24 hrs or something like that. I sometimes log in and check for posts (lookng for a reply to something I've posted perhaps) but I don't have the time to read everything that's been posted at that time. The...

I suspect it has to do with how the knot is made. One starts with dry hair that is tied together into a bundle. The hairs were all straight either naturally or by design as in washed and dried straight so as to make assembling the bundle easier... perhaps some sort of sizing was used (a water solubl...

Sam, I know what you mean.... I'm a confirmed shower shaving junkie. Still, I won't whip open a straight in the shower, there's just too many "things" that could get in the way of a falling straight razor for my tastes. At least I have a decent footing when standing at the sink. I do use a...
