Little Fish in a Can

I do enjoy sardines and I'm looking to branch out a little and try some different brands. The widely available brands where I am are Brunswick, a Canadian brand. I'm not really a fan of their sardines, but the herring filets in a can are pretty good. My favourite are the hot sauce flavoured variety,...

The Problem With Straights

Is that you end up collecting so many beautiful razors you forget which ones you have.

Found this in my box today and shaved with it. Forgot I had it after my hiatus. Great shave.

I'm still working on the same puck of Tabac I started using in 2005. I don't use it that often, of course. I dug it out of the drawer of shame yesterday, it's very pleasant to use now, it only mildly smells of Tabac. I do like the scent though, but it can be strong. The aftershave I have nicknamed &...

Stropping With Linen Only

Even before I got back into straight razor shaving after a hiatus, I always preferred stropping on linen, specifically Tony Miller's Genuine Linen which I'm not sure he even sells anymore. The truth is in the shave and I can't tell much difference between leather/linen, linen, or leather only. Most ...

Feels good to be back. I've seemed to have developed a new straight shaving routine that saves some time (small children, etc., you know the story). I'm going to start a new thread on stropping. Welcome back in the fold! In my life I've used a straight for the majority of the time since I was 12 yea...

Having said all of that, my brother scared me into thinking I should burn them all. He pointed out that DVDs and CD burners are probably going to dwindle into scarceness, because of the greater storage capacity of other media, which is probably true. So soon I'm probably going to start a similar pr...

When I was searching for more info, I found one blurb that said that straight razor sales have increased quite a bit since the movie came out. Maybe sales of Aston Martins, too? It would be impossible, I know, but I wonder what the percentage is of men that buy a straight razor and actually stick w...

Haven't shave for about two years with a straight. Part time constraints, part laziness. My strop has been hanging on the wall the entire time, unloved. I was digging around under the sink and pulled out my Henckel's Platinum, polished out some water stains, sharpened it up and had a go. Results are...

Nice. Just don't take pictures of ivory handled brushes with white backgrounds. A lot of vendors do this and it makes it next to impossible to make out the shape of the handle.

Ooops, I just stumbled into the Geriatric's Parlor by accident. I'll take a lemon ginger biscuit and leave. Oh callow youth! Let's see you in your Tilley hat again  I must admit as I get older I care less what I look like, but I think it will be a long time and an increased level of senili...

Right on the mark. Those of us who've had shaving goods shipped to the office and eventually working their way into the house to the sanctuary of the shave den without having to explain "what's in the package?" can easily identify. Not me, of course, because she's utterly bored with any a...

Sigh.

I wish my Duke 3 didn't shed 2-3 bristles daily. It is a really great brush and only about 6 months old. It seems since I started out using brushes I've had more shedders than not. I can't be bothered sending it back, if they'll even take it. I can't even remember where I bought it. After stumbling ...

Not really being from the age of vinyl, and to be honest, never have heard "good vinyl" (childhood memories are skipping, popping records from my mothers "radio gram"), can't LP's just be digitally recorded to copy the so-called warmth or just a filter applied?

Whenever we stay at hotels (which never have softened water) I always bring a Valobra shave stick, it is a great way to get a load of soap on your face to offset the hardness. Inexplicably I always have better shaves in a hotel with hard water than at home with our softened water. But it is awful to...

Good to see you ED. The Valobra stick is virtually the same formula as AOS shaving soaps. It is one of thee best soaps on the market and every bit the equal of the other top shelf soaps. That said my skin does not agree with it and it gets major burn and irritation from it. I suspect that it's the ...
