Funny you should mention this. I've long known about the "4" being expressed as "IIII" on most timepieces with Roman numerals, so when some friends of mine gave me a watch for my birthday back in January, I was surprised to see "IV" instead of "IIII". BTW, the...

I lather any shaving product, soap or cream, with a very dry brush, so I am really only picking up enough to build the required lather. Now, if one employs Zach's more hydrophilic methods, per his video, then yes, I can see getting to the bottom of the tub much quicker.

PT, Assuming one doesn't have any skin sensitivity issues, there's very little not to like about Castle Forbes Limes, except perhaps its hefty price tag. I find that loading the brush straight from the pot, instead of scooping out a dollop, gets around any lathering issues resulting from the cream's...

Shawn, Since the ATG pass is the one that cuts the whiskers closest, it is often discouraged because of the potential for ingrowns - a problem well worth avoiding. I always do an ATG pass in my routine to get maximum closeness, but thankfully I've never been prone to ingrowns. As Marc has commented ...

Mimis,

I would guess that the heavy fragrances, or perhaps even the colorants, of the traditional creams are the culprits here. Luckily, there are many other creams to choose from, so I wouldn't persist very long with any product you find disagreeable.

I've always maintained that the selection of a razor is as subjective as the choice of a shaving cream or cologne. There is no 'one size fits all'. In my opinion, it is quite foolish for anyone to declare one razor type better than any other, as we all have different criteria by which we select the ...

This isn't news guys it is a late night comedy show. No better or worse than the ones on other stations as they are all cut from the same cloth. I find this brand of "comedy" in extremely poor taste, especially as this story comes on the very day when four Canadian soldiers killed in serv...

At that price, I think it's worthwhile. I find that Yardley bath soaps are among the best I've used - even the modern supermarket version is very good.

Also of note is that they carry the hard to find 'I Coloniali' ( J&E Atkinsons ) brand, including the mango oil shaving cream in terra cotta bowl.

Phil, I have also noticed a different consistency sometimes between the same cream in tub and tube format, but I wonder whether the creams were compounded that way or whether the difference is a result of how long the product has been lying around, or maybe something else altogether. I would guess t...

Vince has mentioned to us in the Mod Forum that he is doing some work on the site which may put certain features, like the gallery, temporarily out of commission. I have no idea how long this will take.

The scent of the Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel seems pretty fleeting to me, that it would not clash with any shaving cream, let alone one scented with lime. Of the lime creams you mentioned, I'll cast my vote for Castle Forbes for an authentic fresh lime scent.

I remember seeing that photograph in a book by John Dominis and posting about it here , in an old thread on Sinatra. If I recall correctly, the book mentioned that the towel on his head was to conceal his balding pate. He was probably already wearing a toupee by 1965, the year in which this photo wa...

How about you guys that use the Fraser cream, that's in the ballpark isn't it? Squire, It's scented with lime essential oil but overall the fragrance comes across to my nose as a citrusy/soapy combination. Actually, when I first sniffed the Fraser's cream, it seemed closer to lemon than to lime. Ren

Badger grade terminology is not really standardized in the brushmaking trade. One firm's 'silvertip' is another's 'super', 'finest' or 'haute montagne'. As a prospective brush buyer, you are better off going by the advice of members who have handled the brushes you are considering rather than going ...
