I think you are quite right to shave gently for a start; using your Merkur (which? An HD?) and the blades you have you can shave safely with the grain for a while until you feel confident, and your skin recovers enough, to go across or against the grain of your beard. Technique is MORE important tha...

No first shave after growing a beard is going to be representative of what you can learn to achieve. Those long hairs are going to be tough and need softening. After the shave you just did, I would change the blade in your razor, as that one won't be much good after what you made it do; it can retir...

If you really-o, truly-o want one you will find some willing takers amongst the new members, but I suspect you're just looking for justification for keeping your horde. The sad fact is, my son, you will have to live with the guilt of acquiring enough shaving supplies to keep fifteen men of above-ave...

Ingrowing hairs happen when we shave too closely. You will have to try shaving with or across the grain in that area and with very little pressure as well.

Michael, if you don't have the honing down pat and are only taking one razor, it had better be a Feather. There is nothing quite so miserable as trying to shave with a blunt straight. On the other hand, the Feather is fearsomely sharp, so you'll have to make sure you have a steady hand in the mornin...

Big Daddy

I doubt if any of you watched British television wrestling on a Saturday afternoon in the late sixties and early seventies. If you did, I will understand if you prefer not to admit to it. Among the superstars of the trade (which was fixed, but less blatantly than the American version of wrestling) w...

Their factory is in Sussex, but the head office is in Peterborough, which, unless there have been many changes since I decamped from Airstrip One, is in Cambridgeshire.

Yes I did, but he hasn't specifically replied to that part. Probably still in shock that someone might want to try another shape!

Update from Bernd: "1. I found a good thread with a 4 mm lead length.(acme thread) This means a total of 3 turns for the complete way, instead of 17. I will reduce the way of the plug from 16 mm to 12 mm. 2.For better grip I will make the disk for adjustment at the bottom with eight facets. Hop...

The vanilla is the strongest, but it is also very sweet and just a bit too much for me. My favourite KMF is homemade - unscented with violet leaf EO. All KMF moisture shaves benefit mightily from using some soap to prime the brush before adding the KMF and building the lather; I think the soap conte...

Dammit Ben! I had ignored a link to that at Pharyngula, and now I have to clean my screen after all.
Yes, I have spent an afternoon taking pictures of the sky and cleaning my camera's sensor lots of times to remove dust that was actually marks on my screen, and I don't want to do it again.
