Re: What are you reading?

All sorts on the go at present. By the bed is Albion's Seed , a fascinating study of four groups of English immigrants to the Americas. Characterised by religion, area of origin and their folkways, they gave flavour to different parts of the USA still seen today. For example, the New England puritan...

For me, I'd say I like The General, but I love my Livis.

Re: Shows I'm anticipating - new seasons coming soon???

The Crown, at least so far, has got it right. A tortured and trammeled existence that one wouldn't wish upon anyone. You don't need to know much history to understand it, and I suspect some well-informed historians were used as consultants in writing the script. Even where we know there is imaginati...

Re: Floris Rose Geranium Ebay

They certainly, maybe still do, make a bath soap in the scent. I have a couple of cakes left in the box of three I bought many years ago. It's lovely, and reputed to have been WSC's favourite bath soap.

Vendor's business-related posts really ought to go in Shopping, but since I feel sorry for you I'll leave this one here.

Re: "That Lather"

Turns out I have three Vitos soaps Red (Almond), Red (Coconut), and Green. I used the coconut this morning - the scent has degenerated into something rather unpleasant, but the soap performed just fine. Not gummy.

Re: "That Lather"

Here's a question: did Vitos get gummy? It's the only other soap I can think of that has hydrogenated tallow in it. Couple of things I've been thinking about that could be causing the gummy factor. Gary, you've used Vitos a bunch. Chris Moss, you've used everything. Is there anything else that gets...

Re: How did you discover wetshaving?

Ms Brown has been posting spam ads for students to employ someone to write their college essays for them. She is gone.

There seems to be a new trend in spammers with western female names, an IP spoofed to appear to come from AZ or NY, and dreadful English.

The above has been banned for spam about student essay writing services. I doubt she can read by the quality of her own English.

Well, blow me, that's cheeky, not to say unintelligent, to go and add your own spammy advert to a thread where your predecessor has been caught. Bye bye "Katherine".

Re: Cannibidiol CBD - what's up with this stuff?

I had a breakfast FaceTime with the boss who is on her monthly session up in Sydney, NS this morning. She mentioned that she had been getting a lot of pressure from the local autism association to approve the use of cannabidiol (she's a child psychiatrist), so while we chatted I did some googling. S...

Re: Cannibidiol CBD - what's up with this stuff?

Our problem is that the trials done have been with small numbers or are of poor quality. There is a JAMA review of published trials , and it's pretty disappointing. Some evidence for pain relief, and for reduction of spasticity, but little else. On the other hand, there are many unsupported claims o...

Choux Pastry

Tried it out for the first time, and it's not hard! This is the stuff used for profiteroles, chocolate eclairs and the dreadfully decadent croquembouche. http://drmoss.ca/Web%20Images/IMG_0311.jpg With cream cheese, fresh figs and cream: http://drmoss.ca/Web%20Images/IMG_0313.jpg With whipped cream,...

Re: "That Lather"

It might be my water, which is hard, but nowhere near the really hard water I grew up with on the Marlborough Downs, where all water came from bore holes deep in the chalk, but I have never had a satisfactory shave from the French soaps that some people love. To whit: I have, and have failed to enjo...

Re: "That Lather"

I know just what you mean - Palmolive lather has a tendency to resemble a slimy cream (think brushless shaving cream, but more voluminous). Working in extra water is the answer, but best to do it as you go along, as too much wrecks it.

Re: "That Lather"

I've been inspired to do a couple of things by this thread. Firstly I tried using my batch of olive oil to shave with. I was surprised that it actually lathered (there was some stearic acid, coconut and castor oil in it in small percentages), though the lather was a bit translucent. Very slick for s...
