Squire, I don't doubt the quality of your lather. Maybe we are talking about slightly different things, since you mention "lathering directly on top of the soap". I assume this means all the lathering takes place in the same container. When I am referring to bowl lathering, I mean when the...

Maybe in theory, but at least to my eyes, the lathers in this video were quite different.

While not the intention of the video, I think it does a pretty good job illustrating the differences between lather made by face lathering vs bowl lathering. I wasn't able to get good screen shots to illustrate this, but the face lather looks rich and creamy while the bowl lather looks overly whippe...

Thalay Sagar wrote:Andrew, I wouldn't let the ingredients hold you off from trying the soaps. As I recall the ingredients in the new soaps and creams are about the same, except for the tallow. They both have SLS/SLES.
This is not true (unless the creams have changed). There is no SLS/SLES in the creams.

Have you tried the creams? General consensus is they are superior to the soaps (which I agree with).

I think ambiguous ingredient lists may have originated with the ascension of the animals' rights movement. The anti-vivisection movement in Great Britain was quite militant and astonishingly violent (towards humans). Thus there may have come a time when manufacturers wanted to disguise the use of t...

I don't see the big deal with the price. Pre-reformulation Penhaligon's soaps go for this amount and they are no where as rare. So the ingredients don't list tallow yet people insist that it's in there. I would think that stearic acid is stearic acid no matter where it's derived. Wouldn't that be li...

So who has a list of all the shave soaps that still use old formulations, especially tallow? You can find a list here: http://www.shavemyface.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14631 Ah, the link here clearly shows the "brown" box and the older ingredients" Actually its not blue...Its brown b...

How old is the "old" version. I had some T&H soap about two years ago and it came in the brown box like the "new" version. I don't know what the ingredients were though. All the pictures online show this brown box, so are you sure this is a recent change?

The hair on the Emperor 3 looks much whiter to me and the banding more distinct. The M7 looks more like Best by comparison.

Aaron, the Chubby series came to mind as a possible counterexample. That said, some of these dense, wide, ultra-short lofted brushes with a sub-2.0 loft:knot ratio (e.g., 30mm set @ 50mm or less) are a product of brush nerds pushing things to the limit and are not suitable for everyone, or even mos...

Squire, I tend to agree. The Vulfix/T&H 2234 that I had was a whiz with the English creams and my Kent BK4 is excellent with hard soaps so I'm not at all sure that stiff, very dense, brushes are necessarily more efficacious. Plainly they are more desirable for those who crave a lot of 'scrbbine...

The listing is too old to view, but based on the feedback left, it looks like she bought it in March for $279.99, so quite a mark up. The title of the auction was "Modern Stainless Shaving Safety Razor w/ Gillette Blade (#160554185989)", no mention that it's some special prototype.

FS/FT: Queen Charlotte Key Lime soap

Up for sale or trade is a Queen Charlotte Key Lime soap that I've used 4 times. It comes in a Fitjar cream container. I'd like $12 shipped in the CONUS or a trade for certain Queen Charlotte creams (must be the formula that comes in the 5oz jar and must be scented with essential oils). PM me with an...

Thanks for the write up, Gordon, and I'm glad that it worked well, at least based on one use. I find that like a lot of blades they improve after the first shave.
