Anthony; I think that you'll really like the Progress. Keep one thing in mind. The numbers on the dial only go from 1 to 5. Don't let that fool you! Each little bit that you move the adjustment knob does make a difference. Start off with number 1 and if you feel that you need more, then go to 1 1/2 ...

Why do you or don't you like adjustables?

I was just curious about this :?: . I know that there're a different sort of animal, one that is largely a personal choice. Some people like'm, some don't. I knew of men in the past that was the only razor they owned and swore by it. Others tried it, didn't like it, and never got another. My own exp...

WTG Ben! :D Like I said in an earlier post, just hang in there. As time goes on, you'll be able to go ATG. PATIENCE and PRACTICE!! After a while you'll find the lather type, blade, razor etc. that works best for you.
Best,
David

RAZOR: SE made to use the Feather straight razor blades.
BLADE: Feather Pro
SOAP: Tabac
BRUSH: EJ Silvertip
A/S BALM: Genteman's Refinery

Great shave with the SE! I'm getting to like the Tabac more and more.

Been at this shaving business for, let's see, about 44 years now. Most of the time I use the more reasonably priced soaps that I "tinker" with. I used to use Williams for I don't know how many years simply because it worked for me. Then I decided to give Tabac a try. Great soap, great lath...

Welcome, Kevin; If you can find a Schick razor-go for it! I think there're great shavers. I have several, one of them I refer to as my dionsauer (model G), some later models still new in the package. Try ebay or some other such online auction house, just don't go crazy over the "new old stock&q...

Memory Lane

Since I’m rather new to the forum here, I’m not sure if this type of post is really warranted or even wanted. But after having read a lot of the beginners’ questions and concerns, I thought that maybe a stroll down memory lane might shed a little light on how things used to be. At least it might bri...

I happen to think of something else that might help. If you have two sinks in your bathroom, great; if not, a large bowl, like a salad bowl will work also. Get a steaming towel or even a nice terry cloth wash rag. Put the cloth in the bowl or basin with some water and a bunch of ice cubes or those f...

OK Benjy, first thing to do is just relax. You haven't given up yet, so that's a good thing. There's nothing wrong with the shaving gear that you have. Don't forget, you have only 5 shaves with a DE under your belt; it may sound crazy, but your face has to adjust to a different way of doing things. ...

Hi, Brian, and welcome! If MERKUR MAN sees your post, he could probably fill you in with more info on your Futur. If memory serves me right, one of the models, Futur or Vision did have an adjustment problem with a few that slipped by their QC. Irration is generally, but not always, caused by two thi...

Thank you, Gordon, and yes, you're right. Back when "we" learned to shave with either the Schick or Gillette, there was nothing else readily available except for straight razors. So, we had nothing else to compare shaving to. If you got a Gillette, you simply "learned' to use it. If y...

Hey, Merkur Man, you were right!

This getting old really sucks! Can't remember sh#t! After you answered my PM, my memory was "jogged". I HAVE a Merkur 38C Barber Pole that I've never used, duh! Took it out of the box, put a Derby blade in it, (I've never tried those blades before) and all I can say is "...

New to group, not new to wetshaving

Hello, everyone; Noticed your site and have been reading the posts for several weeks now, and thought I would “join in”. :D First, a quick introduction. My name is David; I was born in 1952, which makes me 57 years old. I’ve been wet shaving since I was 13. I personally went through, and have observ...
