Sam: I checked at Colorado Pen, but it looked like the only 1951's they had were ballpoint or rollerball. I'll check again later and see if I just missed something. Gene: Thanks for the idea about the Waterman Phileas. The 1951 cap issue wouldn't really be a problem for me, as for whatever reason I ...

Deciding on a new pen

Hey guys, I've been considering purchasing a fountain pen lately but don't want to spend a fortune on one. I'm looking at three at the moment that fit into what I want to spend: Retro 51 Tornado Classic: http://www.joonpens.com/display_collection?id=271&brandid=38&qcolorid=286#1 Sheaffer Agi...

And no, that's not Cary Grant in the photo. I get that all the time. It's me. :)
Ha!

My only resemblance to Winston Churchill is an affinity for cigars and whiskey. Although something tells me my body couldn't handle consuming as much as he did.

All I know is that SMF welcomed me warmly, and I have nothing but good things to say about this community. Enjoy your time here, you'll find it's hard not to.

Porter, it's interesting you say that. I whipped out the boar today and gave it a whirl - while the smell remains to some degree, it's getting better (previously, it would stink up the entire bathroom). I've also learned to adapt to this particular brush's construction and deal with the decided lack...

Definitely nothing wrong with facial hair, and that still offers the opportunity to enjoy a traditional DE wet shave by keeping it properly groomed. A well-groomed beard can make many a man look distinguished; a poorly groomed, out of control beard makes all men look like wimpy Vikings. 8)

Vulfix 1000

Anyone used one of these? I'm still trying to break in my Omega boar, but would also like to try a brush that's a bit shorter. The 1000 goes for about $25 (on a budget here), and am wondering if it's worth the cash. If not, would there be any other badger recommendations around that price point?

Difficulty with Omega boar

As part of my serious foray into DE wet shaving, I purchased a rather inexpensive Omega boar brush; I can't remember the model number off the top of my head, but if I had to guess I'd say it's one of, if not the, cheapest brush Omega offers. When I opened up the box, the first thing I noticed was it...

Yes, it's product from an SMF member. I'm not particularly wary about anyone here, as all the folks I've talked with seem pretty knowledgeable, but I've never purchased any sort of personal product from someone once it's been opened. I wouldn't think twice about cologne, but ASB and shower gel raise...

Buying opened containers of shave goods

I've been having a discussion with Sam about opened bottles of cologne, ASB, etc., and he recommended I post a thread to ask whether or not anyone perceives any sort of health risk with purchasing and using an open bottle of something. Would anyone here have a problem with buying an open bottle of A...

A quick follow up to this extremely helpful thread: I've been using the DE for about three weeks now, and my technique has been improving (slowly) with every shave; I'm happy to report a smashing victory yesterday with a 2 pass (1 WTG + 1 ATG) shave which resulted in the closest thing to BBS as I've...

I have a special place in my heart for the Brits, as they're my area of historical study; however, I can't be too surprised that this is coming from the same nation that recently decided that exiting a room without showing one's back to Her Majesty "posed significant health risks" due to t...
