Re: Harris Sandalwood Shaving Cream

Gary, Good to hear. Yes, that new Sandalwood Cologne I took at sniff at in St. James's would seem to make a nice shave cream scent and, as you say, the Harris's shave creams in general are top shelf.

Re: MIA...my apologies

Sam & Squire, Both pictures are accurate enough. Plenty of fat white sheep in the Wicklow Mts. and plenty of cozy classic looking pubs in Dublin for sure. We were in them for the chow of course, not the stout; the former was excellent and they certainly had a wide selection of the latter. Regard...

Re: MIA...my apologies

Thank you all for your kind welcome-back. I did indeed, as usual, carry all my shaving kit in the checked through luggage. I might not do this if I had to travel regularly for business but on the occasional personal vacation, well, we were going to have checked baggage anyway so it's no problem. Thi...

Re: Review: TOBS Lime Luxury Shaving Soap

Well, I finally was able to try this soap out as I purchased a cake at the Taylor's shop in Jermyn Street and I must agree with Gary that it is excellent. You know, I sometimes kicked myself because I failed to get any of the old Royal Yacht Lime hard shave soap back when I could have. Because of ho...

Re: Harris Sandalwood shaving soap

Squire,
Check my post in that other Harris's Sandalwood thread. Their new Sandalwood Cologne etc. is nothing like their old Sandalwood A/S with which you are familiar.

Re: Email from D.R. Harris re: new sandalwood soap and cream

Evening gents. I discovered this new D R Harris's scent in their ( temporary they say ) London digs this past month. Not having checked in here in awhile I was not aware that there was any such thing until I spied it on their counter. I only sniffed the cologne but be aware, this is NOT like their p...

MIA...my apologies

Well, it's been awhile. At first I was absent because I'd had thumb surgery and couldn't type. After that had healed up a bit, well, I'd just fallen out of the habit of posting and my evenings seemed taken up with other things. Then too, I was away in London and Dublin for almost two weeks in Oct. (...

Re: Source for Wilkinson Blade History?

John, No idea unfortunately. I wouldn't mind having that information myself. The only things I know for certain are that once Energizer took over the production of the DE blades ( as well as that of the Schick Injector blades ) and it was moved to Germany the quality of both took a nose dive. Also, ...

Ah KAV!...indeed....welcome back. I too have experienced being "invisible and disenfranchised" in this society and, while I can't honestly recommend it, it did have it's attractions and advantages. If you check the back posts from around when you disappeared you will see that you were miss...

Re: Gillette 'Swedes'...a dilemma

Hmmm....these suckers seem too tightly fused together to pry apart I'm afraid so I guess I'll have to try some of the solvent suggestions kindly offered above....sigh. Gary, Well, personal opinions vary, of course, but I always thought that the 'Swedes' were even a little better than the Annesy ones...

Re: New Rooney Polo

John, Turkey?...really?...well that's interesting. I asked because 'Rooney', as such, never offered that handle option in the US that I am aware of...and it's clearly done in their highest grade of bristle, the 'Finest' type. I wonder how long ago it was made and also what the deal really is with 'R...

Re: Trumper''s Marlborough

Pete, I agree; Marlborough is a fine gentleman's scent, IMO....AND, unlike Wild Fern, this one is still available in the classic heavy glass 100ml. shaker splash. Despite what Trumper implies in their ad copy it is not one of their older scents, however. Marlborough is one of, I think six scents ori...

Re: New Rooney Polo

John, Ah!...'the Urn'...well that seems to fit. Yeah, they undoubtedly did more or less copy each other regarding handle shapes. Kent's 'T' models up until a few years back looked almost identical to the classic barrel shape that Plisson is known for and Kent also offered a 'Beehive' handle much lik...
