Re: Razor monogamy
If I had to pick just one razor for which I would forsake all others, it would be my 1956 Gillette Red Tip. Every time I use it, I'm actually amazed at how it just seems to be custom-designed for my beard and skin (it wasn't of course, but please allow me this little fantasy). In fact, I only really...

Kai DE Blades
As I've discussed in a recent post, I've just come on board with Polsilver Super Iridium, which I think competes evenly in every respect with the also-excellent Personna Hospital Use. I plan to lay in a good reserve supply of both. As a result of a number of favorable comments about the Kai, I decid...

Re: Polsilver Super Iridium
I decided to buy Polsilver Super Iridiums in bulk, and samples of the Silver Blues and the Kais. I also would've bought Personna Hospital Use in bulk, but WCS was out of stock. I'm getting a bit low on those, but still have sufficient for the moment. I'll re-order when WCS replenishes their inventor...

Re: One pass shave
As an additional iteration on the 1-pass: I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a very particular shaving thing on Sundays. It's the one day that I tend to be quite lazy, allowing myself a long lie-in, followed by an hour or two of drinking tea and reading the news. So I often don't tend to...

Re: Polsilver Super Iridium
Regarding GSB's . . . now you've gone and complicated things! Maybe I'll have to get a sample of those to try before I bulk buy!

Re: Polsilver Super Iridium
My first test with the Polsilver Super Iridium was in a 1970 Super Adjustable set at "3," which, as I posted, immediately showed me that these blades are clearly in the front rank among DE blades. Today I tested a fresh Polsilver Super Iridium in my 1956 Gillette Red Tip. The word that com...

Polsilver Super Iridium
Over the past few shaves, I've been checking out the Polsilver Super Iridium. I hadn't realized that I had a 5-pack lurking at the back of my shelf, and was pleasantly surprised when it turned up serendipitously. Decided to give one a test-drive. My usual blade is the Personna Hospital Use, which I ...

http://doubtfulnews.com/2015/05/this-be ... haring-it/ C. Even funnier! I posted it because of its pertinence to SMF, not because I was so especially grossed out. I thought it was a good laugh just as it was. Now knowing that the whole thing is a joke on the rest of the world makes it doubly funny....

Re: Article in The Atlantic
If we jump to conclusions and panic at the very mention of hair harboring bacteria ... Quite the reverse. I thought the whole thing from start to finish was just a laugh -- I mean, who would've taken the time to even look into this silliness! Obviously, if your personal hygiene is so deficient that...

Creighton's Sells Real Shaving Company
Evidently Creighton's are selling off The Real Shaving Company. I'm not sure of the business transactional issues here, but it's an interesting bit of news in any case. Creightons to sell The Real Shaving Company Peterborough-based personal care products maker Creightons has proposed to sell The Rea...

Now HERE is some news that all of us here at SMF can truly USE!

Some of this makes for slightly distasteful reading, but it certainly vindicates the idea of daily shaving, done well. Enjoy!

Re: Complexity of a simple, easy Task
Welcome to SMF, and I hope you find this to be an enjoyable and worthwhile place to hang out. There's real satisfaction in doing anything with good technique. SMf can certainly step up one's technique. Also, there's a vast world of product out there, not sold in mass market outlets, and it's enormou...

Astra Keramic
I recently uncovered some unopened packs of Astra Keramic blades in a drawer. These blades are now (I think) discontinued. I shaved with one just to get reacquainted, as it had been 5 or 6 years since I had used the Keramic. The shave wasn't too bad at all. Could've been sharper, but it was very smo...

New Technique, the "Richard the Third"
I've always had an especially difficult time at/below the corner of my jaw, more or less "south" (and a little inboard too) of the ear lobe. Manic59 has a great video about addressing this (and other problem spots) -- see around the 5:00 minute mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFdEpVJ...

Re: Back to the DE
I don't insist that all open comb razors are necessarily more aggressive, but the ones I've actually tried have been IMO. I agree with Brutus that a vintage adjustable Gillette might be a great choice for quality and flexibility, given the 9 comfort/closeness settings. Whatever you choose, good luck...
