Re: Chamonix 045N-2

Chris,

Congratulations on your retirement.

As we used to say, a long time ago, in Norway: "May your happiness and good fortune grow........ like the grass behind the outhouse!"

It does seem rather quiet right now, but I seem to remember the same happening the last time I was active on this board.

No where else feels more at home, than this forum.

Re: Weekend Walks in Paradise

Mike, I'd love to visit Japan.... one of the few places I've never been, but that I always wanted to go to. On the other hand, I've spent far too much time on ships, even back when I was 10 years old and travelled from New York to Oslo Norway by passenger ship. Not like the cruise ships of today, bu...

Re: Surprising Change In an Old Brush

My guess is all three. The Colonel is a tough brush to beat, by and large. It's my favorite brush, and while it was a bit scritchy to start, it's quite comfortable now. There was a run of custom made Colonels quite a while ago, I bought one as it came with the higher quality hair, but the handle sti...

A quick and dirty translation, I lived in Norway years ago, but this is Swedish (and I'm very rusty): Grön Lycka = Green Luck On the label, top to bottom: Handmade ecological skincare Whipped shave [cream? Google Translate suggests 'Choice'] Aloe Vera and Kaolin Clay. Regards Kaptain "Will tran...

Re: TGN High Mountain White Badger Hair knot

Gary, How do you lever out an old knot? I've got an old brush here, given to me by a co-worker and I was thinking of putting in a new knot. I do have a woodworking lathe and I'm fairly adept at chucking stuff in the lathe that normally doesn't quite fit, but I've been wondering about how to safely r...

Re: Which straight razor did you use today?

No wonder I don't post pictures... Even my finest straights are but pathetic seconds to the razors posted in this thread. The only razors I have, that could stand the photon bombardment, is my Ralf Aust 6/8 stainless w/African Blackwood scales and my Joe Chandler custom 7/8", and even those are...

Re: What are the more affordable stainless steel razors?

You didn't state a price range, so I'm not sure what you consider expensive. For the record, Ralf Aust has plain jane 5/8 stainless razors for about $120 on his website. I can't think of anything cheaper off the top of my head. I just got a 6/8 stainless from Ralf's site and it is a very nice shaver...

Re: Which straight razor did you use today?

Hah! I finally got that darn 4/8" Carbo Magnetic sharp again. True, I had to *cheat* a wee bit.... I got tired of working on the bevel, it was almost there, but not quite. I wanted to shave and memories of not having the spare time I wanted at the hones from before caused me to toss an extra la...

It's here, it's here!

My recently ordered Ralf Aust 6/8" Stainless, decorated back (ugh, not hand engraved, not a worked back, just laser etched me thinks), African blackwood scales and a Spanish point, arrived Friday. I am very pleased with the razor, even the spine etching is fine, but knowing what I now know, my ...

Re: Which straight razor did you use today?

Rumaging around in my meager collection, looking for something that was still fairly sharp, I found a 5/8 Fredrick Reynolds restored and honed by Traveller over at SRP. In spite of it being ignored for several years, a thorough stropping and a shaky hand resulted in a very nice shave. Hopefully my h...

Re: Feather AC revisited

Thank you Chris, I was looking at MY feather today... then I read your post and put it back on the shelf. Rummaging around in my collection, I found a Traveller (SRP) restored Wostenholm I-XL frameback, registered Sept 10, 1850 according to the stamp on the tang, that did not have that many shaves o...

Hey guys, it's been a while......

I doubt anyone missed me all that much, but I'm back. I can honestly say that I've lost all abilities to hone a straight razor, my brushes all shed and my creams and soaps have completely dried out.... This means I can start all over again, right? Happy to be back. Regards Kaptain "Where do I s...
