Re: Derby PREMIUM blades?
I guess time will tell. Derby blades have always had that "take it or leave it" feel. I liked the original, the follower, not so much. I do have a stock of Feather blades, so it's not like I'm in dire straits, but I could use a few more blades... just in case I live into my 90s!

Re: Derby PREMIUM blades?
Oh goody!
That is what I was hoping for. I don't much use DE razors these days, but I DO miss my stash of the original Derby blades... if this is the equivalent, I'll be a happy camper and a happy senior who can't swing a straight!

Re: It's here, it's here!
All is not as it seems to be.... First off, there was a slight frown to the blade...... only discovered when I went to hone the blade. I've made my peace with it... a narrow hone is required to get it honed without the frown. I find it too thin.... it rattles away when I shave and I prefer quiet and...

Tulip... the one brush I've always lusted for, but never purchased..... Well.. besides all the other brushes I've lusted for and never purchased.... Jeez... gimme a break! Tulip, Polo and one of them French jobbies..... Gad.... sometimes life just seems too short. Regards Kaptain "My current br...

Derby PREMIUM blades?
Leap before looking.... that's me! A few years ago... OK, many years ago....<sigh> My standard blade was Derby.... not the sharpest, not the [insert desired feature here], but it was a great all around blade (I forgot to mention cheap). Then I got the latest version, typified by the disappearance of...

Re: MY BIG wish
For me the secret has been simple. Order so many things here and there that I have no idea when this or that will arrive. I also don't check tracking numbers and if I buy things online regularly enough, there will ALWAYS be something new in the mailbox! Regards Kaptain "I may be broke...

Re: Bread Machine Panettone
Are we talking about the ol' salted herring barrel that every fishmonger in Norway used to have back in the 50's?
Herring... just floating around in a brine barrel.... staring at unsuspecting customers?
I think I ate a few hundred pounds of that stuff.... cleverly prepared by my Auntie.

Re: First razor for young son?
While I have succumbed to the siren song of the straight razor after owning hoards of different DE razors, the only DE razor that remains in use here, is the Merkur 34c HD. It's an excellent all around razor, though it *may* be a tad heavy for a first razor. A Merkur 33c or 1904 would make an excell...

Re: Bread Machine Panettone
Sorry to hear that Chris, it's the one time of year when our family *tries* to get together, but alas, there's nobody left in our family to get together with..... On the other hand, you could ditch that smoked mackerel and give the Norwegian treat "Lutefisk" a go.... Good old cod, soaked i...

I know it's hard to believe, but Xmas 2016 is just around the corner and I get to dust off your very fine Panettone recipe! I'm kind of depressed now that my blood tests are indicating I'm pre-diabetic, but for a good piece of Panettone... it'll be worth it! All the cakes, cookies and choc...

Re: What's cooking?
There was a movie made of that commando operation as well... though I cannot recall the name at the moment. Further reading can be found on the sinking of the Blücher in Drobaksund. It's actually a fascinating story, and when I lived there... oil still came up to the surface from the wreck. https://...

pierogi I must have forgotten to mention... my father was Polish! :D He was a prisoner of war in Norway during WWII and my mom was in the underground, which is how they met. Re: What's cooking?
Dr. Moss, there IS a reason why the South Eastern Norwegians used to say you could recognize someone from Bergen by the fish scales between their eyes. You are correct on the morning ritual of breakfast.... No toast or crumpets, no jam (jam and waffles were saved for afternoon "kaffe&...

Re: What's cooking?
Dr. Moss, I was probably in the neighbourhood of that Fjord around 1975... or thereabouts. Beautiful everywhere.... closer to Bergen you had orchards of cherry trees, pear and apple trees etc. Your mention of jigging for cod (pilking) reminded me of a friends father who was an avid fisherman and wen...

Re: What's cooking?
In that video on Youtube, at 1:52, you see a large yellow house with a red clay tile roof, right in the middle of the scene. The walkway on the right was a road when I lived there. Anyway, the yellow house.... 6 windows across on the 2nd floor.... the one on the far right was my living room window a...

Ugh... at least my fingers didn't spell my name as Christina..... I used to live in Drøbak, Norway.... about 35Km south of Oslo, right on the Oslo fjord. For those wishing to poke around, the internet is an excellent source... I give you "A taste of Drøbak": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v...
