Most of the chatter is about the Merkurs and Gillettes because of the number of them out there - and the fact that they're good razors (apart from the QC issues with the Merkurs). Muhle Pinsel and Edwin Jagger are great as well. EJ will tend to be cheaper, and they share the same head as the Muhles....

WTB/WTTF: Gem Deluxe
Hello everyone, I'd like to buy, or trade for a Gem Deluxe SE razor. This is the true open comb version of the 1912, with a flat blade bed. When I say open comb, I mean that the 'teeth' are not connected at the end of the comb, like in a regular 1912. I have straights, brushes and a few other items ...

I know of a vendor who has a few of these for the $20-25 range. I don't know if it's kosher to post vendors names here, so PM me and I'll tell you how to contact him. It's not me, BTW. I have bought one item from this guy, and the transaction was fine. EDIT: I made a mistake. I thought you were loo...

Well, the handle style is that of the Shavemac 584 'retro', as the previous guy said. The knot is a 26 mm two-band finest (could be from TGN, but I'm not sure). The loft is 52-54 mm. The maker is harder to guess at, as there are several makers who can do this. At a venture, I'd guess it's Bob at Eli...

But Yohann, I have used the brush for shaving literally dozens of times over the last four months. I have loaded it fully each time, then rinsed at the end. I've used many different fragrances of soap and cream. Now, there has been improvement, to be sure. Perhaps Jack's idea of leaving the soap in...

Jack, did you let the brush dry fully loaded with soap, or did you rinse it partially? I don't know what Jack did, of course, but I'd suggest you build up a lather to completeness several times and then rinse it out. Boar bristles are supposed to be porous, so the fragrance oils should penetrate in...

I don't know if I count as an 'experienced' boar brush user, but I've broken-in 5 of them to date....from different manufacturers (Omega, Semogue, Boreal). In all cases, it took about a week or so of use (after the initial shampoo washes) to get the brush to be pleasant to use - and I have a very se...
