Is there anyone who visits New Orleans for any length of time who does not have coffee (with chicory) and beignets at Cafe du Monde? :)

It's one of those iconic events, like enjoying a beer in a tent at Oktoberfest or a hot dog at Pink's.

Glad you had a good visit, Will!

It always interests me that we polarize so much on blades. I've been using Dorco 301s for months now and actually am reaching the end of the sleeve. Each of them gives me 4-6 smooth shaves whether I'm awake or half-asleep and have done so through many different soaps and creams. They just work for m...

Congratulations, Squire! I've looked upon retirees at work with increasing envy lately and no longer fear retirement the way I did maybe 20 years ago. In fact, in a couple of months, I will be "retiring" from IT. I'm a bit too early for actual retirement, but I'm just entirely burned out o...

Hampton Bay is a Home Depot house brand. It may be made by Bali or Levelor or someone else to HD specifications. I would guess it is not the best-quality brand that HD sells, but the price should reflect that. One consideration for those getting cellular shades is to be a bit careful about using the...

I missed this last tlme I logged on to SMF. Sam, I'm so sorry this happened. Pets like that -- especially dogs -- often become junior members of our families, and losing them hurts. Time will make things better for all of you. In the meantime, your spaniel should get a few more pats and treats as he...

Squire is 100% correct. Gallstones don't go away by themselves. You may find yourself in "remission" for a while, if I may use that word, but eventually something else will trigger another stone, and it's a true pain you'll do 'most anything to get rid of. Gall-bladder removal is day surge...

We have a recently-new SMF member who lives in Singapore who was asked about unusual shaving stuff there, and replied (essentially), "Not so much". :(

But one would think there might be some unusual goodies in some of the nicer Japanese department stores and -- definitely -- in China.

Great news, Steve! Best wishes to everyone!

My wife is so eager to be a grandma that she's adopting the babies of friend's kids. :D It will be great, too, when her daugher finally (marries and) has kids. Me, I was never a dad, so being any kind of grandfather will be a new fun thing.

Countless different de blades, brushes, creams, soaps, aftershaves, colognes, balms, etc. (playing devil's advocate here) But (minus the blades) defrank can do all that with cartridge razors. Using a Sensor does not automatically relegate a shaver to goo or department-store fragrances. I think atea...
