My wife and I used to do quite a bit of XC and back country skiing until we rather got out of the habit of it around the time we became parents (no correlation between the two events, I'm sure). Back country especially, and XC as well, combines the same pleasures I get from mountain biking - get awa...

There is, of course, for Richard's bedtime reading to The Princess, an Eric Carle book inspired by the same event.

I'm allergic to nickel. My allergist told me it was from piercing my own nose with a needle (yep  - I bleached my hair to within an inch of its life as well. . . I had this cool earring that looked like a sword slashing through my nose. Good times.). In fact I walked into his office and he said...

I have an Aeropress, which is a great little device, and the coffee I make from it has got so many compliments from visitors I've lost count (I can't count very high anyway, but still). The output is very different from a Moka pot though. As to the Moka pot - first of all, don't put it in the dishwa...

Not into crossbows myself. However, the Excaliber Pixel sure looks like a crossbow that has been given the LiveStrong treatment. http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/images/products/Pixel.jpg Surely the Axiom SMF is the one for the good doctor: http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/catalog/crossbow/axiom_cr...

These protests are supposedly about JOBS (though very few protesters can articulate exactly WHAT they are protesting ABOUT). My favorite episode in all of this was the group that set up a job application table with ACTUAL JOB APPLICATIONS on the tables. I think they got a whopping 3 applications ba...

I have to confess my attitude to voice recognition stuff has been colored very negatively by the inability of any of it to recognize what on earth I'm saying with my incredibly exotic English accent. . .

I see the axe in the background - he must keep it around for a little blade buffing.

Conveniently, a "before" shot but no "after". . .

We've done two three-week trips with the kids on carry-on only. One in England and Scotland two summers ago, the other Spain and France this past summer. The common thread to both was a visit to my parents, with laundry facilities. One carry-on per person, in part due to wanting to travel light, in ...

It's nice to hear from Tony, one of the members who make this place great.

Also, quite an inspirational retirement you're living there Tony - so much for vegetating and feeling at a loose end.

I've gone to the BBB once, and had a great result. A few years ago I had a problem with the gas tank in my Audi allroad, it was smelling like gasoline was leaking. I ended up having to replace the gas tank, which was no small expense. Within a week of replacing the gas tank, I got a recall notice fr...

My first stop is the BBC football site: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/default.stm City are off to a decent start, top of the league having played twice, won both matches and scored 7 goals. Manchester United (the quiet neighbors, right Wendell  ) play this afternoon, and need to win ...

Definitely cracking stuff - unfortunately I had my timing off. I turned on after 20 minutes (missing two goals) and then turned off with 10 minutes to go (missing two more goals and three red cards  ). I can only imagine what the other 18 Spanish top division teams were thinking watching those ...

So the talk of the opening weekend (until Aguero anyway) was Arsenal having a man sent off for rising to Joey Barton's bait, and not having a man sent off that should have been - once again for making contact with Barton. Or was it Larsson's superb volleyed equaliser for the Mackems? I'll admit to a...

WBA had 7 red cards last season, then Arsenal with 6. Arsenal were 17th in the "fair play league" totaling reds and yellows. Meanwhile Blackpool were top of the fair play charts, and got relegated, so too nice gets you a trip to the Championship. . . http://soccernet.espn.go.com/stats/fair...

Teams have been going so long that there are tons of rivalries and hatreds, spoken and unspoken. Millwall likes to style itself as the hated team "no-one likes us, we don't care" sung to the tune of "I am sailing". Well, "sung" in the loosest sense. http://www.youtube.c...

I was just starting to ponder who would do better in the shoot out (and concluding Hart looked less shaky than DeGea, although United's players were probably more composed, and that's really what matters) when City went all out up front and left the big hole for Nani. Entertaining, to say the least.
