I went to a rather obscure chemist today which I thought might sell Tabac soap (ever since I moved out of Amsterdam finding the soap has been a trifle difficult), but alas. No Tabac. I did find this little product, and at less than €1, could not resist bringing it with me. I like the scent better th...

Yes, they do. They work so well (bought one for a few €'s) it's not even funny anymore. Sheesh.

Experiments finished. It is definitely the brush (a Shavemac silvertip badger with bulbous knot) because with the nameless flat and harder nylon one the lather is miles better. I could always tell what kind of lather it was going to be because at some point the nylon brush would create large (but fl...

Well, I didn't soak the puck, and if pucks are either good or bad---better phrased, the chances of finding a bad puck are higher than what I am accostumed to---then obviously my money is better spent on products which perform without problem every time, right? I mean, it makes you wonder about a sta...

Well, the lather was better, but still evaporated off my face. After hours of 'dagnabbit, I'll crack this stuff', I could pinpoint the source of the problems. My brush is too soft (or has a wrong shape) for MWF. Owing to MWF's hardness, it simply refuses to pick up sufficient amounts of soap (suffic...

More weirdness. I thought I'd cracked it, but when I wanted to create a nice lather this morning---zilch. It evaporated off of my face. That means too little soap, for whatever reason. After fiddling with it for a while, I did a face lather routine which gave somewhat better results with fabulous so...

For the record: when I first tried it, I didn't have any problems. It was when I tried to repeat it the next day that I ran into a problem which, with perfect 20/20 hindsight, was a rather silly one. The main cause was me not using my brain and wanting to rush things. Apart from that, anyone got an ...

Darndest thing, really. I broke in my pcuk of MWF the other day, and on the first try or two got a nice lather out of it. When I wanted to shave the next day, I tried in vain to reproduce what I'd done the other day, to no avail. I must've tried at least a dozen times. But what was in my bowl was al...

Jeez. How on Earth is a layperson to know :)? So now we have the original Brut, which is available from Fabergé in Paris only; Brut 33 which is now on sale in the US and Europe; a slightly different Brut 33 which you get in the UK (but it comes in old and new versions); a German Brut which just lice...

Making hair softer can be done in a variety of ways. You can add water, which has the inner core of the hair itself soaking up water molecules and becoming more flexible (and thus softer). You can add alkaline compounds to hasten this process: they open up the outer sheath of the hair, making it eas...

Precisely my point. Now I don't know if I agree with Tabac's slogan that it is for men for whom the words 'honor' and 'loyalty' are important traits... (In Germany, the commercial goes like Ein Mann. Ein Wort. Vertrauen. Ick.)

Interesting story all around. I've just returned from vacation in France, and I usually pick up a single (cheap) aftershave there to mull over at home. Sometimes a fragrance works, and sometimes it doesn't, but in all cases the few €'s I spend on them don't break the bank. This year, when faced with...

Re: Cream vs goop

jbc wrote:Why is the canned goop that you find in drugstores cheaper then the higher quality creams that you buy in tubes from such companies as King of Shaves?
Economy of scale, and the ingredients are different too (notably simpler).

June, eh? After seeing the good doctor's stash of Tabac, I think I shall visit the local Body Shop too once the sale starts anew. There is something to be said for stocking up on favourites, especially if they are no longer readily available.

Reformulation is certainly alive and well. Two days ago I was in the DR Harris shop in St James's, London, and I happened to look at the ingredients list on a box of Arlington hand soap. Sodium tallowate used to come top of the list, but no more—it's now palmate. The shop assistant said that tallow...

Funny thing, really. I can't handle Col. Conk Almond and Arko cream either, Musgo is fine, however. If I were to guess: with CCA it's the benzaldehyde---the compound which makes the soap smell so deliciously of almonds---meaning that you should avoid P.160 duro and morbido as well as TOBS Almond and...
