Yes, along with Trumper and Truefitt rose versions this is an excellent product and one I wouldn't want to be without.

I have been cycling through soaps in the last few months but got out a tube of Taylors Rose specifically to use during the next couple days while we enjoy the holiday.

Morning Glenn, The Palmolive on shaving soap idea is one that surfaces occasionally on the shaving boards because it is a good suggestion. I recall mentioning it about a year and a half ago as a way of using up small slivers of expensive bath soap as well. You can of course use one of the top shavin...

Hi Scott,

Simple head geometry could be the answer. That and manufacturing tolerances of a few thousands of an inch here or there producing a subltey different cutting angle. Sounds like you've got a just right combination there.

John, these things are great aren't they.

When my son begins to shave in a couple years he will start with his late Grandfather's 50 year old Gillette adjustable whose proven design and quality is now entering into a third generation of use.

Morning Yasuo, I'm sure reasonable people can disagree over the use of such a personal tool as a DE razor. For my part I appreciate you bringing your collector perspective to the discussion. A few questions if you please, when you say Gillette copy are you speaking of the fixed head Merkurs? Could y...

A few clarifications. I did not say I went to barbers I said I was taught to shave by old time barbers. I did not say they used a DE, rather an unvarying blade angle. Members here who were also members on the predecessor shaving boards may recall my stories about old time barber shops and the time I...

Well to each his own. I was taught to shave by professional barbers who achieved excellent results by using three passes and an unvarying blade angle. Decades on my expectations remain the highest and my results reach that standard.

Partially, yes, as I mentioned above when using a lesser blade I increase the setting to 4 or 5. I consider Schick,Wilkinson, Persona and their ilk to be in that category. I use Feather blades exclusively now because they give the best service but Merkurs are no slouch in that department. Last year ...

Hi, good morning and welcome, The best place to start would be to read prior threads on this board then ask questions as you progress up the learning curve. Many, many people have started with a drug store boar brush and Williams soap, some using the combination for years, however I suggest even the...

My adjustable razor of choice is a long handled Gillette. With Feather blades I set it at three and leave it there. I do three passes, the first with grain and the other two against (i.e. ear to nose, nose to ear) using exactly the same hold and pressure. I don't do any facial contorting or skin pul...

The Surrey soap can be one of the most versatile when it comes to scent. Once the soap is melted you can add any scent you choose.

I've had particularly good results with D.R. Harris Sandalwood cologne.

Brad, I have used both Surrey and Williams for years and both work well. Williams is the traditional tallow based and Surrey is a glycerine type. An advantage to Surrey is it can be easily melted to form to the shape of the cup or bowl and in its melted state scent of your choice can be added for a ...

Hi Brad, Its neither expensive or difficult. Just moisten the bottom of the soap and stick it to the bottom of a large cup or small bowl. I use the large continental style coffee cup but a small ceral bowl will do as well. Once the soap dries it is stuck and will not move around on you. If you start...

Ah, Honk, Just when I thought I'd figgured it out you you hit me with this conundrum. I have traveled thorugh out the State of Iowa and viewed pig feeding lots, some of which are on hillsides, and the big boars are always on the top of the hill. Always. The middling and others are further down. The ...

I once met a wisp some irish lass in a pub. She told me her name was Cunny Linguis. Had a few pints, don't recall much detail, but woke up realizing I had passed a large time.

Actually Williams is pretty good stuff. I've used it for more than 30 years and if it was the only shaving soap available to me I believe I would be well served.

Hi Lou, My first suggestion would be say try the razor. I have one of these old techs and it gives very satisfactory results. Not quite the equal of an adjustable but good none the less.
