Next set: a Plisson and two Rooneys. All excellent brushes. You have the start of a good collection! Far too good to sell, in my view. If you are a wetshaver, you are all set. If not, stick around and learn how!

Re: inherited some Shaving Brushes. Looking for info
The first is a Kent BK, which came in three sizes, 4, 8 and 12. Look on the bottom and it should say which it is. A soft brush, but surprisingly good with soaps. The second is an older Simpson Persian jar, again this came in several sizes and yours is the smallest. It is made with "super Badger...

Re: Cream versus Soap?
After a week of TGR creams, I decided to revisit the Cyril Salter creams. I have a full set of the old style, all sealed in plastic film except one, and a full set of the new versions (save one that has been consumed entirely). The old tubs included an almond scent that was not initially available i...

Re: What Did You Hone Today?
Last week I took out the seven day set of TI Eagle 6/8 razors. First time I've used a full hollow in a while, and it's been 2½ years since I last honed and used these razors. But simply stropping and shaving shows they have kept their edges. Given that I collected these nearly twenty years ago, I wo...

Re: Cream versus Soap?
I think this is no longer available, but I've been enjoying The Gentlemen's Refinery Standard and Black Ice shaving creams the last couple of weeks. The former is a mild anise scent, and the latter much stronger. You can tell the recipe is not like a Creighton's cream, but the performance is up ther...

Re: Fifteen years on this forum
Thank you Chris it’s good to be back! If memory serves you also dipped your toe into the “Rolling your own”, are you still making your own soap? If so how are you ever going to put a dent in that huge Tabac collection I recall seeing a picture of? I still have a large amount of it, which is j...

I have several, but I prefer the small size for a close fit around the brush.

"Venture"! The only adventure would be in the profits made from people buying large flashy watches that make them feel good about themselves.

Yes, it's been trashed and Ray would be saddened. I got a spam e-mail from the new owner inviting me join him in his exciting new wristwatch venture! The post above would be deleted as self-advertisement by a vendor if it was made today, but back in 2011 I think Glen was working for himself........a...

I'm very happy to hear it. Warm lather is a luxurious addition to any shave.

Re: Straight razor vs DE razor...
Funny, then, Gary, how I have a late 1700s straight that shaves beautifully! Provided you don't let it rust, and you know how to hone it, there is enough steel in a straight blade for hundreds of years of use. I don't think you can say that's the opposite of 'durable' when the blade of a safety razo...

Re: Tabac After Shave and Eau De Toilette
We're going a bit off-topic, now! Yes, stearate is pretty much the same as tallowate (which is a mixture of fatty acid salts). My soap uses commercial stearic acid and lard, along with some coconut oil and lanolin.

Maybe the article was written by someone who cut himself on his first straight shave, no doubt using a "shave ready" razor from eBay!

Re: Tabac After Shave and Eau De Toilette
Who can say? I suppose it will depend on the debate they conduct at some level between those execs promoting veganism, and those protecting the environment. Those two often claim to be on the same side, but in this case they are in opposition. Speick shaving sticks used to contain tallow, but now do...

Gene,
I get an error when trying to use the 'Contact Us' link, so I'll look into it.
I'll try again to send a mass e-mail, as there will be lots of people out there who don't know the board is back.

Wasn't supposed to shave until Wednesday as scheduled but I jumped the gun and enjoyed a remarkable brushless shave this morning with Caswell Massey ROS (rose) shaving cream. This is an outstanding product with or without a fragrance. The Rose is delightful. Top shelf as appropriate for the cream. ...
