Must read! A delightful and impressive SMF/SCS Sue thread.

I came across this most amazing thread initiated by Sue from St. Charles Shave a few years ago, and it involved some detailed testing of certain products by a number of present and former Shavemyface members.

Once upon a time I had a 48 Omega. Maybe it's just my clouded memory from 2 years ago, but the reason I didn't keep the 48 and use it more, was because the bristles were too firm for my expectations, measurably more firm than the 106. Maybe I am remembering incorrrectly, but this morning when I used...

Connaught lists the knot dimensions for the 20106 as 28 mm x 65 mm. Shoebox lists the knot dimensions of the 10098 as 27 mm x 65 mm.

Here's the photo of the brush from Connaught.

The new 20106 brush arrived today. The Omegas must be pre-cleaned and deodorized at the factory. That wasn't the case with my Semogue 1305. I've shampooed it now, and have lathered it for the first time in my palm, with the MWF/Tabac, which went very well. I loaded it with as much lather as it seeme...

Yes, Robert has communicated to us that he got, perhaps, more than he bargained for. It's been clear to me for quite some time that to make these old style English creams really 'right' is harder than it might at first appear. Today, only Creightons seems to really have the 'knack' and even some of...

Marc, I like your idea. I would take a fixed head Futur in black powder coat finish with a custom rubber grip on the handle.

Squire, I'm afraid if I tried to make a brush out of wool, I'd probably end up with a really expensive wooly clump that would stink, both functionally and literally. It'd be a big flop, in a manner of speaking.

I had no idea about the curve in the handle. The guy I got it from, along with a nice old W&B SR, told me all of the shaving stuff he was selling (strops, SRs, and some other stuff, no hones unfortunately) came from an estate. If somebody for some reason took a straight handled razor and put a c...

Mine also. I didn't realize it had a name, but I like the word materialism. Thanks.

Shavepocalypse in action

I've been thinking about this for a while, and here's what I think. Primarily, Gillette/P&G is in it to make money. They invented the razor blade, and they aren't about to quit making and selling them. Their job is to figure out how to make more money selling razor blades, as long as people rema...

Gary, Well, actually there was an entire separate website/forum for 'method shaving' at one time. It folded after the founder became too busy in his personal life to participate much and some active members like Brett and Marion began to realize that they were being...er...strung along, and moved o...

Speaking of the infamous shave cloth, there used to be a sub-forum called "Method Shaving" on another forum that was cancelled due to lack of interest. Was it really wool?

Now we're starting to make progress. A Cashmere brush! The shrinkage phase would be similar to the break-in and defumigation of the boar.

A few weeks ago I bought 6 TOBS SC samples from TSD store. It was an eye-opening experience, and I recommend it highly, if you're curious about any of their products.

I imagine there are several types of wool? Obviously I have not researched wool, but I was thinking it's durable, and seems to have its own unique ways of managing moisture. I wonder if it's ever been used in any other types of brushes. Just a few random thoughts that triggered the post.
