Question for you old farts and retirees?
I officially retired and sold my insurance agency business on Jan 1, 2016. I have been semi-retired for the last 3 years but now I'm outta there. No more work period. While I was working I usually shaved each day unless I was in one of my beard stages. The beard did get a trim once or so a week. So ...

Why men should not write advice columns: Distraught wife writes to the advice columnist Johh, I hope you can help me. The other day, I set off for work, leaving my husband in the house watching TV. My car stalled, and then it broke down about a mile down the road, and I had to walk back to get my hu...

Re: "As Seen on TV" frying pans
Just stay away from the As Seen on TV junk. Yes, it is junk for the most part. You want good cookware then go the Cast Iron route. Solid conductors of the heat and also heat retention. Once seasoned properly they will be pretty much non-stick. Like razors the best CI cookware is vintage Griswold, Lo...

Congrats Sam. Hope that you are lucky enough to say someday that you get the better end of that marriage deal just as I do. Only been 44 1/2 yrs since I got really lucky. Enjoy the honeymoon and sharing the ups and downs in your life together. Oh, and when you come home be sure to check under the be...

Re: brush condition, brush health
I can't believe how little water that lady used in her rinses. I run the water much faster and I rinse more times. I also don't believe in conditioners for shave brushes. They work by depositing a layer of emulsified wax which is melted by hot water and deposits on ones hair. I don't want that on m...

Here is a link to a video and directions at Em's Place showing the procedure for cleaning a brush. Does not say when you should do it other than seeing deposits at the base of the knot.

When I first got back to wet shaving the traditional way I bought and used quite a few of SCS products. The soaps and creams were just okay and I have moved onto the 3Ts. Did also use and still do abit a few of there EDTs. Oakmoss & Lavendula, Very V, Savory Rose, and my favorite Smoke and Beads...

A kitty or two willl help as well. And the kitties are fun to watch and play with and can make great lap and bed buddies on cold winter nites. Our 4 kitties keep us rodent free and provide many hours of amusement.

Oddly, no. I receive several e-mail invitations a day to complete surveys for cash. As an 'umble family doc they can be worth $25-100 (I understand my wife gets offers far higher and she does fill them in to put the money towards Pippa's Place . The thing that has burnt me is the sheer cleverness o...

Re: Steak knives
Sam,
I have a set of 4 of these: Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition Steak Knives. Not something that you would put in the dishwasher. In fact I do not put any knife in the dishwasher other than the regular table knife. Got to treat those wonderful cooking implements gently.

Through the shop window is indeed a fine image. A little bit of the old and some of the new and of course the cool reflections. Well done Chris.

Re: Chicken nuggets
Sounds very much like the chicken nuggets I make. One difference is I use panko bread crumbs and add some garlic powder and garlic salt to the recipe. The panko bread crumbs make for a much crisper breading. Glad you have found something that works fine for you. Enjoy.

Re: Mitchell's Wool Fat
The more you get into it the wool fat seems a rather good thing to try. The lathering issues I think are more related to time of loading and type of brush used. Time of loading I agree with. But the brush type I don't know. I have found success in making great lather using best badger, silvertip ba...

Saturday, grilled marinated portabello mushroom on toasted bun with balsamic aioli and arugula for the wife and a regular burger with the aioli and arugula for me. Grilled some hobo potato packs, those yukon gold potatoes cut into pieces and doused in olive oil, salt, pepper and some fresh thyme and...

I wonder how it might taste with lamb instead of the beef or fish? Maybe add a bit of oregano and mint to taste with the lamb? Wow this is becoming an interesting thread.

Re: Sole en Croute
Sounds good as is for myself. I think beef would substitute nicely in that pastry. That would make the wife happy. I can't think of any substitute for the mushrooms though. She'd just do without. But first we need to get our new oven which should be here within 2 weeks or less. I never realized how...
