Re: In search of a good synthetic

I have a few (okay maybe a few dozen) synthetics. The ones you mentioned, as well as Whipped Dog, Muhle, Edwin Jagger, ApShave, etc.. La Maison du Barbier made by Plisson is a very good brush, but my favourite is the Timberwolf knot. It can be found on Aliexpress or at Maggard Razors. Most of...

Re: A tribute to the 2006 SMF brush

I have mine stashed away among other brushes. I'll use it once in a while, and although I have various types of brushes, I still like the feel that the SMF has.

Re: English Fern tallow soap by Penhaligon's

I've had mine for a few years now, but use it sparingly because once it's gone, it will be hard to find an equivalent.
Nice scent and an amazing lather, it was worth every penny when I bought it.

Re: FS: D R Harris Arlington Milk (old)

I also have about half a bottle of the Arlington in the old style pump as well as another old Arlington in a regular bottle with screw on top. I also have the newer versions of all the other scents and let me tell you that there is no comparison. Like the good Doctor said, the new ones are goopy, gr...

Re: In Praise of the Ordinary Razor

Tim, I bought my first Rockwell 6s and love it so much I bought another one. I do also have the 6c but the quality is not the same as the 6s. It's very close but not quite the same. One example is the handle screwing into the head. On the 6s it's buttery smooth but the 6c is a little more rough. I o...

Re: "That Lather"

Tim, I was going to mention that the Salter soap does in fact smell very similar to the T&H Luxury soap. My first quality soap was indeed the Luxury soap, and no matter what, after many years I still can't get a good lather out of it. I had a few cakes and used them up as bath soaps. When the Sa...

Re: Razorock baby smooth vs rockwell 2c vs 6s vs Feather AS-D2

Hey Chris, I have the Rockwell 6S which should be comparable to the 6c. The differences are that the 6s is stainless steel and made in the USA, and the 6c is made of some alloy and made in the far east. The 6s is my favourite razor at the moment. It's adjustable, ( I use it the #4 )as it gives a goo...

Re: Truefitt & Hill Creams

On of my favourite creams was the T&H Sandalwood. It's also been discontinued as far as I know.
I still have a tub of the rose and I try to use it sparingly.

Re: Does anyone wear briefs anymore...

Yep, I hate tight underwear. They have to be 'breathable', comfortable and 100% cotton.
Like the good Doctor says, at our age it's more about comfort than trying to look like an 18 year old with speedos.

Re: Lather hog

Gary, since I started collecting synthetic brushes, I haven't looked back at my badgers.
I find synthetics to be more softer on the face as well as maintaining very good backbone.
They also don't 'hog' the lather like badgers do.

It's getting tougher to find 100% cotton boxers. Now they add some kind of spandex to make them stretchy...........

Re: Taylor Old Bond Street Avocado Cream gone hard.

I would just use it like a shave soap. It should still lather okay, not 100% like a newer cream though.
When I find creams that have dried up too much, I use them as bath soaps.
Works great and gives you a reason to get another tub of that cream.

I remember buying some pots way back as well. I loved this cream very much but hung on to some for way too long.
I had to chuck them out as they were harder than granite.

Re: Muhle R41 vs Merkur Futur

For me the Futur gives the smoother shave, with less irritation than the R41(newer 2013 version).
The older R41 is a real shark of a razor and I rarely use it. It is scary if you're not careful and can take chunks off.

the problem with the original xxx made famous around here by the long lost member fisherc, is that it set such a high bar, razorock was never able to reach it again clive Clive, that's my sentiment as well. I still have a tub or two of the original as well as a few of the second formula. I also hav...

Sam, I have that exact same brush. I'm just wondering why you don't like it anymore.
I love the feel of the bristle and the size is just right. Very similar to the Emillion everyone was raving about years back.
