Thanks, Jim - The experience you share is valuable, and you are also an excellent example of keeping it simple and getting great results. I have succumbed to the various acquisition disorders, myself, but I hate to see new wetshavers feel they have to do the same, or that they have to get high end p...

I have a rather anti-bourgeois mindset, so my approach has generally been that it is acceptable to wear jeans at 95% of the places I want to go, and I don't frequent the other 5%. I also live in rural eastern Washington State, where this is largely the norm. I work as a social worker in Child Protec...

I'm certainly partial to my lime soaps!

Rob, I'm late to this thread, but I'm glad you went to a doctor and that the pain is subsiding. I hope you are soon pain-free and back to your old healthy self :D

For you, "supplement" or "complement" are both true. But a guy would be able to get consistent good shaves if this was his only brush. Exactly! In my own case, the Omega boar brush is one of several brushes, and the others are all badger (as in Glenn's case). Nevertheless, I fir...

Oh! You got me right where I live! This is a big issue for me right now. I got a degree in languages and linguistics, traveled around Latin America, lived in Brazil for a couple of years, followed by almost 3 years in Portugal. Cliff, I find myself tempted to try a GEM razor, but I still haven't experienced all my Gillettes, and I have yet to try my Schick Injectors! A doubt I have (without having tried a GEM) is that the large head might be harder to maneuver over the changing contours of the throat. I hope your next GEM ...

Welcome, Jerm!

Most guys learn to lather cream easily, but have more difficulty with soaps. It sounds like a little more water in your cream mixture and you'll be there.

It's good to see another new wetshaver in the Pacific Northwest, even on the same side of the Cascades as I am. :)

Let me add mine to the voices in favor of this brush! I don't consider it in any way an "inferior" brush. I consider it a very good brush, a very effective latherer, and an excellent value. It isn't as luxurious as a silvertip badger brush, but it isn't prickly like most pure badger brushe...

Hi Drake - I soak the brush in hot tap water for at least 10 minutes. With a boar brush, in particular, this is necessary in order to soften the bristles. Before loading the brush with soap, I shake out most of the water. I like to hold the naked cake of soap in one hand while I load the brush with ...

The Wilkinson blades Oscar is talking about are the NOS UK-made blades. They are the ones that come in 100-blade "pillar packs." (They are not the "Economie.") They are outstanding.

The Rooney Super Silvertip and the Rooney Finest are different brushes. Each user has to determine what is best for him. If you want the softest, most luxurious brush, it would be the Super Silvertip. If you want more backbone for face lathering and reasonably soft tips, the Finest is the way to go....

It depends on the Wilkinson product you're referring to. Wilkinson Sword blades are now made in Germany. I wouldn't be surprised if they were rebranding razors from China or India.

You can get what appears to be the same razor, under the Treet brand, from Tryphon's Barbieria Italiana (in Florida), for $7.50.
