Alum is used in alot of developing countries (both for shaving, and as a deodorant) and was traditional in barbering. It's cheap, for one thing. It also does stop bleeding and does draw moisture of the skin- good for razor burn. Alcohol does much the same thing but also tends to be very painful on ...

It was supposed to be the best stuff for Poison Ivy or Poison Oak also. I had to take it to Boy Scout camp.

About a week ago, I bought a mirror at Bed Bath and Beyond. It mounts to the wall with an articulating arm, bringing the mirror eye level and as close as I need. It also has a magnifying side. Great purchase, I no longer have to lean into the sink to shave.
