Re: Cataracts

Phil, pro tip: When oncoming headlights at night start to look yellow then it's time to get it done. I pushed it a couple years too long.

Re: Cataracts

I went for distance vision in both eyes. Doctor said I'd need readers, something I'd already been using for years. So now in addition to 20/20 vision, I also have a nifty collection of readers scattered around the house. 1.0, 1.25, 1.50. and four pairs of mighty 2.5. Even a month after my last post-...

Re: What Did You Hone Today?

I've never used a straight and with my vastly unimpressive beard area I most likely never will. It's a wonder I've accumulated so much quality shave stuff. Was told a story about my paternal grandfather (no memory of him) who would soap up and zip, zip, zip was clean. He was from the old country and...

Re: Cataracts

Final regimen of eyedrops complete. I'm done other than the followup visits where I get to flirt with the nurses in German. Okay, maybe not that last part. And yes, Bruno, I'm seeing things, surfaces, corners, and owned items needing cleaning. Damn cobwebs.

Re: Cataracts

Second surgery 1/4. Now two days later and my right eye is at least 95%. My entire house is one big eye chart. I'm testing my eyesight on everything: plants, bottle labels, TV news, clocks, tree branches, the house across the street, Jupiter. A little sensitive to bright light but not concerned.

I'm continuing my story in this thread instead of the "Cover me" thread.
Update: Laser surgery on left eye on 12/7. Vision tested to 20/20 on 12/15. Next surgery is 1/4.

Re: Cover me, I'm going in

I'm scheduled for the left eye on December 7. Right eye in January. Many follow-up visits mit der Augenarzt. Doctor leaves absolutely nothing to chance. Good thing, it's my eyes. Laser option, bucks out of pocket but I don't care. Can't take it with me. With only one eye corrected I might be walking...

Cover me, I'm going in

Cataract surgery in the next month or so. Being the hopeless procrastinator, it's been over two years since my optometrist told me to get it done. So now it's going to get done, finally. Can't really do this without properly memorable shave soap, right? Usual rotation won't work for this so I'll nee...

Re: Mouthwash

We had Listerine (the original) in the house when I was a kid. Parents taught me how to gargle without drowning. Always a valuable skill. I still have one unopened bottle of TheraBreath. I like it; very refreshing, but I'm not much of a mouthwash user.

Re: Older guys and mild razors

[snip] I am on a journey to get my head as BBS smooth as I have gotten with face shaves I tried the smooth look a few years ago. Buddy was shocked when he saw me. Neighbor lady simply took one look and said "No". The same response I got from a girl at the grocery store when I asked her op...

Re: Headshaving with a DE?

I went "smooth head" a few years ago using a DE. There was some alcohol involved. Buddy was wide-eyed at the result and neighbor lady simply said "No". So much for that experiment.

Re: Where is Everybody?!

I thought about starting a thread "After retirement, why bother shaving?" Rather depressing and pessimistic, admittedly. Maybe if you're married or at least socially active it would make sense to be clean shaven. But if not? I suppose clean and fresh is a reward in itself. Sorry for the bu...

Re: Cataracts

I'm also on the way to cataract surgery. Having holes cut in my eyeballs isn't exactly on my quality of life list. But I'm told I'll end up seeing better than I have in years. It'll cost me money, probably less than a one-day recent market decline.
