Re: Who still has their very first razor?

I thought i had posted? To me my first and still the best razor is my merkur chrome HD. I have used others. It is how much i hated it at first, almost decided to go back to cartridges or electric razors. And this day none better razor than the one I hated so much when learning. It can still give me ...

Re: Derby versus... what should I try? Or should I bother?

A sample back is a good idea, though as all has posted you should stick what you have while getting used to DE shaving. My Derby blades I have from years ago are just fine with me, I like them. I have besides them only ordered Super Iridiums, Feathers (too aggressive, might try use them on summer, p...

Re: First DE shave complete... my results!

I think you made a good choice with your razor Rev. The adjustables seldom give any better shaves than fixed head ones. I have my Merkur Progress and it is no better than my simple HD, actually HD cleans better under the sink. As have been told your next step upwards is get a brush and soap/cream fo...

Re: First DE shave complete... my results!

Really good hear your first shave went so well. I am surprised to read that to say the least. I think you mentioned shaving against the grain too with a cartridge razor, so you might have some technique people dont usuallly have already. My first shaves were not as succesfull, years ago. I was a mem...

Re: face lathering a cream

I think there is a terminology difference what a face lathering means? You can load your brush in a bowl like from the soap but the lather is not made up by that procedure. With creams I can understand you make the lather to brush in the bowl and make it ready for just to paint on your face and star...

Re: Gillette Nacet Stainles Blades. Anyone tried them???

I have a 5 blade cardboard packace of Nacet stainless. Mine are made by Gillette Czech S.R.O And the package has on sides some writings that look like arabian? I have not opened or tried them, kind of like treasury i keep untested, since propably if I like them cannot get new ones. It looks a little...

Re: Considering going the DE route...

Going to DE shaving is really rewarding after the admitted some learning period. With a DE razor you can have the gentlest of shaves compared to cartridges. Some blades like Feather are not to all of us so gentle. Anyways the summer time is the best to start it with usual mistakes when our skin is t...

Re: getting used to the new smf2 look

The new site looks pretty good. What i am a little missing is having only white backround on posts. It is no biggie and I remember when badger@blade changed, there was some option to have the old style as an option for viewing messages. Anyways thank you Vinnie for updating the forum and hope this m...

Re: Loading up on soap

What I do, and I am not sure if it saves any soap as using more is always good. I have this quite small puck of soap in diameter sitting now on my Tabac bowl. And i don't iknow even if it is any good as pucks go. And no tallow and it is no name, my first soap since I started shaving with a brush yea...

I always wash my face in shower with a bath soap concentrating to do that on my whiskers prior shave. It is not as soften my beard, rather to clean anything that might get into my shaved whisker pores. And cause some irritation of bacteria. I am a firm believer that you don't need anything else befo...

of disposables, i have only tried Bic Sensitives and them Gillette bluehandled 2 blade things many years ago, both fixed heads. To me The yellow handled Bics are ok. They won't give me as gentle shave as my Merkur 34 C or my Progress. I am despite being almost 55 years old, a relative newbie to wet ...

Sam you are blessed with the thick whiskers. I have never been able to grow some moustache that did not look stupid on my face. Or a beard. Some how i'm, regretting not having as much, as you beard blessed guys. I'm soon 55, i shave all off, because i am not you, just have to do that, every darn day...

yes clayglen John, it can be true that some blade that don't work in overly mild razors can work better with razors with some more aggressivity. Only in general, for me it is that my good blades work in any razor. For me it is the opposite. I have been trying to tame Feather blades from time to time...

You should try them Wendell, or maybe as Gordon and Brian recommended now available Polsilvers. Derby blades what i have are just fine for me, but they are so far away from Iridiums. From the years ago Derby blades i have, not knowing of the now sold ones. And Derby and your Feather are having a ver...

I will give again my try on gillette 7 o'clock blue platinums. My initial opinion was that they are not as very long lasting, but I will put them to test.

To me Marc, Feathers are just evil to my face. I get spear sharp stubble and that I think means they are too sharp for me. Taking too much skin too with their cutting thing. To me it is just not worth to try them in a very mild razor like Progress, to try "tame" them. I have not tried my M...

What are long lasting current blades of of good quality?

And quality blades available these days? I shaved today an 8th really good shave with my Iridium Super blade. My skin on winter months is such tender that i seldom shave 2 days in a row, but buzz with an electric shaver. But an 8th shave despite having more to shave than if wetshaving everyday. Not ...

They should have changed the model number in my opinion already in the previous 2 versions. It could be a marketing gimmick to cause some talks in our shaving forum. Will be interested to know what Mark and others fellows think of it.
