Re: Against the grain
That's the problem I have. My cheek hair grows north the south. My neck has some south to north; some diagonal SW to NE; and some diagonal SE to NE. If I do a one pass shave I have to be content with stubble no matter which way I shave. Even my cheeks don't really get smooth unless I do the diagonal...

Re: Against the grain
For ATG shaving, I have trouble controlling a bladed razor so I use either the vibrating multiblade heads that have enough surface to prevent me from scraping or gouging. I also use the Gillette Guards that a member recommended. Although It is a single blade razor, the comb serves to prevent gouging...

Re: Revisiting the house of Hermes - the older stuff
The classic scents seem to be the domain of the senior generation. My son and grandsons have no interest in scents at all, except anti-perspirents. My wife's kids go for those with ads in men's magazines (the "latest".

I saw one on the evening news tonight. I'm from another generation and only think I have heard of him. My favorites were Frank Sinatra: Perry Como; Bing Crosby. I could understand the words in those days.

Re: Penhaligon's Scent Library (14 different samples)
Years ago a member cleaned out his collection of samples and I picked up about 30 including the Blenheims and a lot of the other big boys. Got to see what all the fuss was about.

That's what my wife does. She hates to go into Walmart where I pick up my stuff.

I'm so glad I started this thread. I hope some more of the old guard notice it and chime in.

Re: Current hair care regimen and products
My current shampoo is Suave Free and Clear (I believe). It is unscented and supposed to remove all the conditioner from your hair so you can start fresh. I also use it for my body wash except my upper body. There I use a bar of soap rubbed on a washcloth. (This takes care of my back since I don't us...

Re: Think I found the culprit ...
This is one of those great threads where we can learn and add our two bits. I found for me, I don't need any hot towels or strong preps at all. In fact, I can use a brushless cream and no prep and get a good shave with 3 passes on the skin with only one smear of the cream to start. The blade must be...

Speaking of members that I haven't seen lately, is Squire still with us? He used to be our guru on blade sharpness and did scientific tests on them. I hope he is still reading the posts here at least.

Re: Current hair care regimen and products
f'm still using the Suave Keratin conditioner because it's cheap and seems to condition my hair fine. I notice that we are all sticking to our favorites and so no one is trying the product another member has posted in this thread. It would be interesting to try one of the others and compare it with ...

I just saw that the top thread in shaving soaps and creams was started by Gordon in 2013, and it has posts by several of the active members here. Maybe Gordon still looks the site over and will be stirred into action.

Longevity of ARKO Shave Stick
I have been seeing all these great threads about the longevity of wonderful higher end shave soaps. I just thought I'd add a product that costs about 5 bucks and, for me lasts an amazingly long time. I don't have the patience to weigh it like Gary does, but I know I can't seem to use it up. Months a...

Re: Posting Has Slowed Down Lately
Well, I'm 86 and this is one of the mature sites that I have found. I wonder if members find new mature places to haunt when they stop visiting. I never could get used to the kids at B&B or coggeegeeks where I check coffee making and roasting threads because I am an amateur coffee roaster. Maybe...

Posting Has Slowed Down Lately
I have noticed that the hearty discussions that were so great are getting fewer and fewer lately. I wonder if we have all said our piece and need something or someone new to stir things up. I hope we can find some news to pass on here. I only can say that my son has come to visit and has sprouted a ...

Re: Comment on using up products
I am trying to use some Rose Coates cream that Gary gave me. It has dried some in the tube and is very thick which makes it hard to spread. I had the same trouble with some TOBS samples that I saved. So much for rotation, the soaps last so long that the creams suffer. Use them up first.

I got fed up with constant rehashing the election by one of my friends. The only way to clean up my facebook was to unfriend her. (Several posts daily).

Re: New guy here!
Welcome and hello David. I live in Eastern Washington too (Pasco). When I first joined about 10 years ago I had an old Gillette DE razor that I hadn't used for years. I got hooked on the posts here and acquired a bunch of razors and hundred packs of various blades as well as half a dozen brushes and...
