Thanks guys. Now I understand.

I'll assume that if the soap is triple-milled, the description will say so.

cymric, for what it's worth, my first DE shave was also terrible, as was my third. I used a Dorco 300 blade with a new Weichi razor. Most users of cartridge blades (at least here in the US) consider shaving to be a chore. Most DE users ("wetshavers") consider shaving to be a pleasure to be...

Please identify the cold pour soaps

I have seen two references today to cold pour soaps.

Could you please mention some brand names?

Are some considered higher quality than others?

Well, I'm not conducting a scientific experiment here, so yesterday after two pretty good shaves with the Crystal I decided to do something different, and flipped the blade over. The result was the best shave with the Crystal! How is that possible? How is it possible for the third shave to be better...

I guess I forgot to bookmark the thread in which someone posted the many email addresses of merchants who offer free samples.

Could someone please provide a link to that thread?

Could someone please provide an email address to request the Floris samples?

How does one melt soap?

What do the posters here do when they say they melt soap, such as an Arko shave stick?

Are they putting it in a bowl and microwaving it?

Have you seen the Arko Shave Stick? It might be something you would be interested in. David, the only shave stick I have is the St. Charles Shave Wake Up! which I won in their contest last week. I haven't tried it yet. Squire has posted that he thinks very highly of the Arko shave stick. The price ...

Mag, all of my shaves have been with distilled water, and I'm happy with that. I haven't tried blowing on the wet blade yet; maybe I'll do that with the second round of blades to see if that makes a difference for me. Today's shave was my first with a Crystal. It was pretty good, but not as good as ...

Lee's fit me the best.

I have never owned an expensive pair of jeans.

I get whatever they are carrying at the moment at BJ's. My most recent purchase there was a pair of Levi's.

TB, I like all of the Royall scents very much. You have already mentioned the Muske. I often use the Mandarin (orange). And I love the bay rum.

Re: Cheap shaving tools guide for a newbie.

You’ll need some blades to go with that razor. You will buy a blade sampler pack from West Coast Shaving. This is not a recommendation, it’s a requirement. You’ll never be able to accurately evaluate the shave from a safety razor until you find the right blade for your face. $13.25 I'm still a newb...

My third shave with the Israeli Personna red was something of a surprise. It wasn't really uncomfortable, but it didn't cut the whiskers. Usually I've got a smooth shave after two passes, with just a touch up on my chin and upper lip needed after that. But this was never a close shave. Next up will ...

Gordon, I have a friend in his 60s who I think is both wealthy and penurious. (I think that would be parsimonious. Penurious means having no money.) NTS, You got me thinking so I looked it up! Miriam Webster Online has the second definition of penurious as "given to or marked by extreme stinti...

The ones using Fusions probably use the same cartridge for a month....sigh. Gordon, I have a friend in his 60s who I think is both wealthy and penurious. He says that he believes that soaking blades in alcohol keeps them from going bad. He says that he has been using the same Fusion cartridge since...

After three shaves, I put away the Dorco. I'm not saying that my problems weren't my fault, but I wasn't willing to try a fourth day on that blade after my bad experiences. My past two shaves have been with an Israeli Personna red. The difference was so great that they cannot be compared to the Dorc...
