Re: News From Colonial Drug

Buzz, Thanks for the update. This second move does sound like it will be an improvement. I guess she never did get that promised website up and running eh?

Re: FS: Rudy Vey Real Ivory Persian Jar

Wow!...that piece of ivory is so pristine that it hardly even looks in the photos like it's real ivory, although you can see it if you look close. A beautiful and unique brush for sure. Best of luck with your sale.

Re: Coping with change

Gary, Well, if you remember...when you were much newer here, some of us told you that eventually you would slow down, that that driving 'curiosity' would abate and you'd begin to settle into a more limited number of products and hard ware. Most of us who have been here a long time went through a cur...

Re: Personna Hospital Use blade

Matt, Yeah, that's not a bad description of these HU Personnas; 'a sharper ( and longer lasting ) version' of the tried and true IP blades. Another way of describing them is to say that they are not unlike the beloved Gillette 'Swedes'...perhaps not quite AS good but not that far off. FWIW, I can't ...

Coltrane, Yes, use a light touch as slant head razors are generally quite 'aggressive' shavers.

Re: All things considered I'd rather be in . . .

Squire, Yeah, me too. Even though I grew up not that far away we never went to Philadelphia; our area of New Jersey was oriented toward New York City. The one and only time I was there was to take my older son up for the start of his freshman year at Temple University and out hotel was just around t...

Chris, Decidedly encouraging. I'm glad I made it once to the old Black Cat Cigars on Walnut Street before it closed.

Re: My adventures with a Rolls Razor

Brian, Okay, point noted. Since I knew that the Valet came with a little strop I just assumed the blade was intended to be more or less permanent. I actually had one at some point but I never tried to actually shave with it....too chicken s**t I guess ( chuckle ). Anyway, they are indeed interesting...

Re: New Gillette cartridge razor

Basil, That has been largely my experience as well ( other than that I DO get razor bumps etc. from multi-blades ). That is; the shave is generally not as good for me with the cartridges and I've always had to do the same number of passes in the same manner regardless of the razor if I want the kind...

Re: My adventures with a Rolls Razor

Squire, Sorry, I just now checked this thread ( the Rolls razor is a subject of periodically reoccurring interest here ). As of the 1930s anyway, Churchill was using a Valet razor ( this information is from a written description his son gave of a conversation he had with his father just as WWII was ...

Re: My old AOS Lavender cream

Sam, Well, over the years members here have reported success with 'rehydrating' creams using a number of different methods. I tried several of them with those pots of Coate's that I used to have but, for me, none of them seemed really satisfactory. I some cases the cream just dried out again quickly...
