Re: Looking for a new soap that also lathers well?
Not to mention my home made soap. I'm checking out a tub of Synergy Shaving Soap - Cavendish fragrance, made by Howtogrowamustache. The artisans we have these days are putting out some amazing soaps. The cavendish does smell nice; just got some scent sticks from Douglas which included cavendish. Wo...

Re: What size Anchor Hocking bowl?
Thanks for posting the picture, Bob. Those are definitely not the same Anchor Hocking bowls I purchased. Mine did not have the logo on the plastic lid. I will watch for these when I have a need for more.

Re: What size Anchor Hocking bowl?
Gary, unfortunately I had already opened the packaging and was packing soap into the bowls. However, they do service nicely as a temporary home for soap samples and function as a pipe rack when I load my pipe. Speaking of containers, found that Maggard's (http://www.maggardrazors.com/) not only sell...

Re: What size Anchor Hocking bowl?
One caution with Anchor Hocking bowls! Bought some at Target (1 cup I think) to find out when I got them home and opened the packaging that the plastic lids would not fully attach nor stay on. Now I have a set of bowls with no functional lids.

Re: Rolling My Own
Thank you, Chris! Now it is clear! Well, the formula did end up being more complicated than I thought, but I will study it. Just retired (again) and, foreseeing time on my hands and reading what you and Gary have been up to, perhaps I will take a stab at this some day!
Appreciate it, John

Re: Rolling My Own
Thank you, Chris! Most interesting! And I gather that my selecting/mixing fragrances ahead of time probably may not give one a very true idea of what the final soap scent will end up as, given heat (as you said) and the impact of the other soap ingredients you mix it into. Another question, if I may...

Re: Rolling My Own
How/where do you gentlemen come up with the fragrance formulae? Gary, I know you have spoken to that but it is now buried in a mound of threads! Are there publications that serve as guides?

Re: Rolling My Own
Gardenia does sound wonderful! Not sure I have seen a shaving soap with a gardenia scent before.

Re: the FAT
Oh, baah! All this sheep-shop talk has finally piqued my interest enough to want to try the shave soap. I'll order a sample to see if I can tolerate lanolin currently, though the last time I tried (years and years ago) it was like having the Exxon Valdez run aground on my face. I remain wary but de...

Re: the FAT
Had second shave with MWF this morning. Still think I can do better building a longer lasting (wetter) lather. Will try again tomorrow. Face feels very nice!!! (Old TOBS tub working out well as a MWF container.)

Re: the FAT
Thanks for the advice, JR. I left the soap intact and put it into an emptied, cleaned TOBS shaving cream tub yesterday (gave up finding a better container at WalMart). Used the Mitchell's for the first time this morning with good results. Splashed water on top the soap, soaked and wrung out my brush...

Re: the FAT
Just received my first ever puck of Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap! First order of business was to find a bowl to put it in; opted for an emptied TOBS rose cream tub. Didn't want to grate it into a bowl, at least not yet. The smell really is fantastic; wife thinks so, too. Really looking forward t...

Re: Removing glue from double edge razor blades
I use Super Iridiums, which have the wax spots, and I do one of three things: ignore them, scrape the wax from the blade edge using the old blade that I am discarding, or run hot water over it. Never seems to bother. I have not cut myself - so far!

Re: G.F. Trumper Rose Soap
Clive, what is the "vintage" of the G.F. Trumper rose puck you are using now? Obviously wondering if the most current puck is better, and if you missed the supposed "bad ones".

Re: G.F. Trumper Rose Soap
The response I received from G.F. Trumper is as follows: Thank you for your email. I cannot comment on the statements made on the shaving forums, but I can advise that all our shaving soaps are performing well. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Kind Regards...

Re: G.F. Trumper Rose Soap
Clive, that is an extremely interesting question. And an even more intriguing one is why/how you like it when others complain about it on at least three forums. Am not doubting your satisfaction; just wondering how you achieve success. I just finished looking at the published (at least) list of clie...
