Hi David - I've gotten most carried away with razors. Since I have looked for old Gillettes, I have been motivated by the idea to get them when I could. I would often get a functional razor first (easier to find) and look for one in more exceptional conditon later. I have bought most of the recommen...

Jim There is no reason in the world for you not to get an excellent lather with your vulfix brushes using soap. I've only used a cream twice, but as far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as a one brush being better than another when it comes to soap. An SMF urban legend in my opinion. Clive I...

Hi John - I'm not a collector, so my details might be a little off. The Ranger Tech was only made for a very short time, perhaps only 1941, and it was a one-piece/twist-to-open razor. When civilian production of razors resumed after WWII, the Ranger Tech was reindroduced as the Super Speed. Otherwis...

I've seen this kind of comparison before, but there is never any sort of conclusion drawn. Based on what I see, I tend to think that the width of the blade has little bearing on its performance. Either that, or it's one of several significant variables. It's definitely something I would like to kno...

I agree that a good boar brush is very adequate, in particular the Proraso/Omega boar brush available at QED or Tryphon's Barbieria Italiana. I now have badger brushes, too, but I can make excellent lather with this brush and still use it occasionally. I think you can go ahead and use the new razor ...

rick, There you go. That was my first thought. The Shavemac is denser and that mug you're using is probably not giving it enough room to work properly. With something like the Omega, the water, air, and lather just flows right through it, so it's not an issue. Try using a small shallow bowl instead...

First of all, Welcome to SMF! I agree that Williams soap is good soap, and a numer of the gents on this forum still use it. You can get a very good shave using this soap. Other popular soaps that you can find at your local drug store are those by Van der Hagen. They also sometimes go under the Surre...

All is in unusually nice condition - a real treasure! Communication with Bob was great and the razor was very protectively packaged. I hate to refer t...
