Inkling, it is indeed hard for little monkeys to be good. :7) All right, the mob has spoken, and so has The Mrs., so I think I'm going to go the route of a closed box for the razor for now. When they get older, perhaps we can all live in harmony in the one bathroom -- but for the immediate future I ...

*ahem* (Never posted before about coffee on this site...) I enjoy New Harvest Coffee's Roast Boy Blend, espresso ground ('cause I got three kids and can't grind while they're abed), perked through my little Bialetti stovetop Moka Express pot. It's not quite having a separate water softener, but it's...

*Scratches chin, thinks before typing...revises posting, then smiles* I won't take offense at what you wrote: you seem like a good man, and anyone raising kids who listen that well certainly deserves to speak his piece and have it heard. But my kids are strong-willed and obstinate, and they talk eve...

Storing brush & blade w/small kids around?

Can anyone make suggestions about storing a razor & brussh around kids, besides don't do it ? I have three curious, active kids in the house (ages 7, 4, and 2), and I am reluctant to leave my brush & DE razor within arm's reach -- or even "within arm's reach when standing on the bathroo...

(Sorry to thread-hijack, but this keeps coming up.) Are Feather blades really that sharp, or is saying so just kind of a habit, like quoting "Blazing Saddles" at inappropriate moments? I would ask my dad to pick up for me a bunch on his next trip, but not if they're, you know, too much bla...

Let the games begin!!! I will give it a try when it shows up, and report back. I'll try to balance my inexperience and customary skepticism with some blood -- that always works in the movies. I always shaved with water but only started using a DE razor recently -- and my dad and brothers didn't tea...

A note about blades: I ordered a Merkur HD from the wonderful Charles of QED, and I'm glad that I (impulsively) also got some blades: the razor didn't come with one! Also, consider the cheap-ish but nice Kiss My Face brand cream from the Filthy Hippy Grocery store. (I kid, I kid: they're actually ca...

How can I pass up such an offer from a guy with that avatar?!

All right, just let me know when they arrive. (When you say "price reduced," what's it down to, withi mailing cost?) Say, can you confirm whether or not the Feather blades are just a Japanese brand? My dad goes there on business periodically, and I'm thinking of having him bring me a shoeb...

Awright, I'm a Minnesotan by birth, and used to a little leg-pulling from you Canucks (e.g., poutaine? Are you kidding?), but are you this impressed by what's basically drug store shaving cream? Or is it a little nicer than that? I'm heading to Maine next week [Booth Bay Harbor] and thinking of keep...

(Say, nice username!) I just went through this myself. I got the much-praised Merkur HD classic (which didn't come with a blade, but I'd ordered a ten-pack so it was OK). I bought the Proraso brush from Target for $12. (It smells, but that's solved with a dose of Febreze fabric de-stinkifier.) Then ...

Hmmmm... Then I'm obviously doing something wrong. :7) Perhaps I'll try more cream tomorrow than the quarter-size blob I used today. Say, do you start it out by putting it on the brush and slapping that against your cheecks right away, or do you need to work it in your palm (like cleaning a paint br...

Beginner question on the necessity of a mug

Do you really need to use a mug? I have tried this same cream three times, working on it with a brush in the palm of my hand, any only gotten what I think is an indifferent amount of stiff lather. If I stir it up in a cup, or less water, or use more clream, will I have better results? Thanks from a ...

Go, Febreze, go!

ScottS's suggestion of Febreze was the correct solution. Today my brush only smelled odd and not disgusting; I am hopeful that continued use will either wash away the smell for good or just desensitize me.

Thanks, ScottS.

Some casual testing this evening: 1. Pert shampoo (worked for 60-90 seconds and then rinsed): Smells like a pig in a locker room. 2. Children's soft soap Something Berry Something flavor from a pump (worked for 60-90 seconds and then rinsed): Smells like a pig with a lollipop. 3. Kiss My Face shave ...

OK, will do. I always thought that it was full of chemicals like dry cleaners use so the thought of letting it into my pores spooks me a little. But you seem OK, so I'll do it. Thanks again. -Will P.S. All morning that smell has disturbed me: I don't know if it's actually on my face or just my memor...
