Re: Brewing tea Question

RIGHT, I type in British measuring spoons and get vintage sets from various defunct UK Airlines and hallmarked stuff pinched from the Downton Abbey props department. I'm just going to tweek things till I get it right. My Irish great grandmother would toss out the first cup- 'that's for our enemies' ...

Re: Brewing tea Question

Thank you Owen ( and Squire.) I have so few things My expectation for perfection borders on the compulsive. I just finished a fascinating book about Sir Robert Fortune; the famed Scottish horticulturalist who brought tea to India. Now I know why- and fervently agree with the British preference for b...

A FINAL KISMET

I was up early to shlep two bags of recyclables down to the recycling center. My neighbor kindly gave me a ride. I had to sit for 90 minutes until they opened, but saved a walk with two bags I cannot carry with my back and rib.I walked home and in spite of carrying water REALLY felt the fatigue this...

Brewing tea Question

I am trying to up my 'High Tea' ritual. My Sadler Brown Betty is being joined by a copper tea kettle and a teacup strainer. A trip to a store catering to various ethnic groups has a marvelous biscuit(cookie) selection and I bought a filtering pitcher for my awful water. I re measured my pot- a full ...

This is another one. Rolls Royces actually have one of the best survival rates of all makes @ 50% I recall many years ago a National Geographic photographer in Jordan finding himself in one of T.E. lawrence's armoured cars from WW1. As for the dowager? I still have my standards

Re: Coffee cups as shaving mugs

It's curious, I found a .99 cup at the Salvation Army and feel as much pleasure as my more expensive kit gives. It's a older, Anchor Hocking cup that were so common in restaurants growing up. It matches my other faux ivory items and gives a pleasing symmetry to my bathroom countertop. I had to shave...

Elizabeth Arden sales losses

https://celebrity.yahoo.com/news/justin-bieber-taylor-swift-fragrances-blamed-weak-sales-173000238-us-weekly.html I hope I transcribed the link ( this is soooo important.) EA blames a 13.4%-150 million sales lost VS 2013 on their signature fragrances. Join me in a group whistle of the OLD SPICE jing...

I just sweated out my reapplication for the California EBT ( aka food stamps ) card [-o< . The politics of walking

I walked down to Trader Joe's today. It's a 35 minute effort at a military pace and 5 controlled intersections. I'm heading home; surplus german rucksack and two TJ bags. I ONLY had one car almost plow into me in a crosswalk. But turning onto my road this drug addled transient walks in front of me a...

1977 and I'm stationed in Alameda Ca. I had been on limited duty while a medical review board debated my future. I was driving a stretch Dodge Van taking recruits to medical appointment at the Marine Hospital, picking up supplies from Oakland Navy etc. My division officer thought it 'humbling' and w...

We happy few who rise early to shave while others remain safe in bed; claiming a shred of manhood most skipped between turning 16 and retirement came first.

Coffee cups as shaving mugs

I know this is an old and honoured piece of toiletry. Today, by chance I bought a older cup in a lovely ivory to match brush and razor. Ah, the irony. I popped a fresh puck of Dittmars in the bottom and went to use my Wee Scot. Heloooooo? I know it's DOWN THERE #-o Now I have a excuse to buy a fulls...

water, water everywhere and not a drop...

My tap water is plain wretched. I get a superior lather using distilled and have to clean my razor in vinegar and DW monthy. The joke is I have to bath in this stuff and probably look like the crome by the third week. This AM I reached for my distilled jug and it was empty  I vaguely remember...

Re: an orgy of questions

I shave daily. In my misspent youth I sported beards and moustaches trying to look older. Now I shave to look younger. I enjoy shaving. I use a gifted Edwin Jagger with Super Iridiums and Dittmars soap. My sole brush is a Wee Scot. I intend to try several new soaps, buy another fullsized brush and m...

Midway Island is the relunctant host to a floating island of plastic the size of Texas. World currents converge bringing refuse from all lands. The seabirds feed their young plastic mistaken for food. The island is now covered with baby bird skeletons. Plastic is now the #1 particulate material afte...

Re: Coping with change

One of the 'fads' online are websites devoted to 'being men' along with a renaissance of leather luggage makers, men's clothing, our pursuit and just about everything else to feed our inner Walter Mitty . I happen to approve of the spinoff industries. Indeed, my earlier penchant for quality helps su...
