Didn't Old Spice do something similar once? (Still?) I think it was a can of a fairly creamy foam directly attached to a brush. You'd twist or push down, and the cream would come up through the brush for application. I remember using it a few times maybe 15-20 years ago, but I don't remember the exa...

Joel, In the original review thread you'd mentioned the thought of having a QED and a Shavemac brush. I know we're all excited by the Shavemacs, but would there be the chance of Charles being involved as well? He's been a part of the experience for a lot of folks here, and I'd hate to have him left ...

I wonder why they don't make them like that for the M3. Are they just too expensive, or do people actually like lighter handles? I think I pitched mine a few years ago, which is too bad. Now that I'm used the wieght of the Futur, I'd want to use something like that old Atra handle if I had use catri...

Canned foam or canned gel? Talk about the choosing the lesser of two evils! Randy - was that one of the really heavy Atra handles? I used one for ages with a nice blck-and-silver hatched pattern. It was very heavy for an OEM handle, not at all like the featherwight M3 toys they're selling these days...

I'd be worried about something breaking if I dropped a stone-handled brush - a tile, a toe or, worst of all, the brush. Despite my newness here, I'd certainly be interested (although would need a really small font for my member number). Doing this as a republic rather than a democracy is probably a ...

Gramps, Man, that worked a treat! Much closer, very few uncut strays, no nicks, etc. I'll have to play around a bit with a pulling strategy for the left since I go cross-handed rather than switching and it gets a little close with the various arms trying to go wherever, but pushing with the tongue w...

Problem Spots
So I'm able to get a decent shave everywhere except for two symmetrical areas, roughly a quarter-inch square on each side of the end of my upper lip. The bottom edge is roughly even with the corner of my mouth and includes kind of the outer portion of the skin, and I can't seem to get much shaving a...

Joel, Your mentioning KOS as a preshave caught my eye. I've posted elsewhere here that I think the stuff is great, but I haven't tried it with the DE yet. Did you use a thin layer and lather over it or wash it off before shaving? I've been holding off trying it just becuase it seems like it might gu...

10 thoughts from a(nother) newbie
Now that I’ve been using a DE for about five weeks, I feel like I’ve gotten to the point where I have some points that other newbies might find useful, or at least not entirely useless. 1) If you want to try a DE, stick with it for at least a month. It takes a good week just to get used to the razor...

I'm about 5 weeks into using a DE, having used a variety of disposables and cartridges, plus three different electrics, over the last 17 or so years. Most recently I'd been using a M3T with King of Shaves gel, which I'd say is as good as you can get in the cartridge world. My feeling is that a decen...

It's not really shaving, but there's the rather uncreative use of a straight in Dressed to Kill, in which Brian DePalm does for straights what he later did for power tools in Body Double. Interestingly, DePalma also directed Casualties of War and The Untouchables. My suggestion: if you ever spend th...

Sean Penn shaves with a straight in Casualties of War, an act that gave me the willies somthing awful the first time I saw it. I think it was the effect of Chekhov's law, just waiting for something to happen with the razor. If I saw it now, I'd probably run to the computer to compare his technique t...

BTW, don't store it tipped up with one end in the little plastic case and the far side resting on the edge of the case, at least not if you don't dry it off. Water will collect along the lowest edges, forming a jagged edge of crystals over the original, smoother edge. Then one day you'll innocently ...
