1) I believe that all gentlemen were taught to take off the bands immediately, prior to Marvin starting Cigar Aficianado. He thinks that you should leave the band on, and many newbies followed his advice. Since then, some manufacturers glue the band to the cigar to discourage removal, so that people...

The Derby keeps getting better. For my third shave on it today, I flipped it over. This is the second time I have flipped the blade after two shaves, and both times the third shave was great. I don't remember who it was I saw post that idea, but I'm grateful and I'm going to keep doing it. I think I...

I don't know the answer to that, but Giovanni has them at 50 for $40.00, and he seems to be pretty competitive across the board.

Michael, They're even better the second day, and for several days thereafter. It dawned on me way back in the '60s that most stainless DE blades are not at their best on the first shave, and that still seems to be true. Enjoy. Regards, Gordon Gordon, thanks for affirming my experience. Of the four ...

Re: Looking for a "Cool" cologne

Davidoff Cool Water? Maybe it's not esoteric enough; it's a more common fragrance. I tried a sample bottle of it, and while I'm not sure it was quite to my liking, it was inoffensive. It is more modern but still isn't really "ultra-modern", the fragrance is not aquatic/ozone, but neither ...

Here we go again with another case of the blade getting better. My first shave with the Derby was good, but a little disappointing because I had concluded from reading the threads here that the Derby was the best of the four blades I purchased, and this one was no better than the Crystal or the Pers...

Thanks for all of your suggestions guys! As a newbie, I don't want to change too many variables at once. I've been changing my blades for now, using the same razor and cream (Weishi and Arko regular). After I settle on a blade or two, I'm going to try a number of different modestly priced creams and...

I agree that we newbies should use the search function. But each time I do I get a very long list of threads.

Perhaps the old threads that you refer to which answer common newbie questions should be sticky'd.

Craig, it's been many years, but as I recall the Colgate and Mennen (I last week discovered a tube of Mennen with a little bit left in it. It must be over ten years old!) were thick, greasy and messy, but did provide a comfortable and close shave.

Dave, I suspect that you want the job done in a hurry because you think of shaving as a chore. If you follow the advise of the posters here, shaving will become a pleasure, and you will be willing to spend double the time on it. So you have to begin by trusting the advice of posters who appear to kn...

Slick creams

From time to time posters refer to the slickness of creams and soaps.

Years ago I used Colgate and Mennen brushless shave cream, so I think I know what you are talking about.

Can you please name some creams that deliver on the slickness quotient without overdoing it?

OK, Gordon. I was thinking about the blurbs included on retailers' websites, but you ought to know.

I think I have a BB&B outlet store near me. I'll have to check it out this week to see if they carry anything relevant.

I get BB&B confused with Bath & Body Works.
