Disposable straights?
Ok, I've got these in my toolbox. I purchased them from Lee Valley Tools and they were sold as craft knives but durn, they do look like they could be used as a straight razor. Just wondering if they are really sold for this use in Japan? I don't think I'll give it a try myself... http://www....

I'll have to weigh in on this again. I'm still waiting for my Progress but I'm a bit bewildered about the description of the blade being almost flat in the Gillette compared to the top. On my Gillette adjustable (skinny metal handle) when I close the silo doors with the knob there comes a point when...

Notthesharpest, is that your webpage?!?! I've never mentioned it but even though I was born and now live in Canada, I spent most of my youth in Norway! I'm afraid the teachers in Norway just gave up on me and my handwriting... To be honest, it's not that bad anymore as I get lots of practice working...

The Conk Bay Rum and Lime are in the mail today. Hope you like them. Thank you Chris, I'm looking forward to giving the Col. Conk a workout. I'm sure I'll love the Bay Rum.... the Lime is going to be an adventure though, I have a love/hate relationship with citrus. Still, just today I ran across a ...

I'm still waiting for my new Progress but I grabbed my new to me Gillette adjustable for the first time today. Up til now I've used an ancient open comb Gillette with Super-Max blades which are probably Persona according to someone else on the forum. I started with the same blade at a setting of 5 a...

Well, todays shave went much better, no doubt due in part to the arrival of a $5 adjustable Gillette DE. Mind you, it worked so much better than my open comb I ended up getting careless and had one pass around my adams apple go sour... first time I've need a styptic in a long time. I used the pre/po...

Hmmm... blackpowder muzzle-loading caplock rifles and shotguns If I'm going to have to go waterfowl hunting with a black powder firearm, I'll follow the old traditions to a tee... make mine a punt gun, I refuse to reload in the field! Barring that and turning to upland game I would have to ins...

Tnx everyone, I've just placed my order with QED, and I have, after a long chat on the phone the other day (at his nickle no less) decided to leave it in his hands as to what he'll send me. I requested the SR-208 but if there is something else superior in his stock, I've left it to him to send me th...

Trumpers hard soap query
Do I understand correctly that the Trumpers hard soaps are not available from NA sources? I've found tubes and tubs of creams but no cakes.....

A self confessed "Retro Grouch"
What exactly is a Retro Grouch? The term I believe was coined by a cycling magazine when refering to Grant Petersen of Rivendell bicycles fame. Grant always felt that this newfangledness didn't "improve" the experience of riding a bike. I could go on for hours but if you have an interest i...

Well, I think I have it narrowed down a bit. This morning I elected to miss the morning shave but rubbed on some Proroso pre/post to see what would happen and it was just fine. This afternoon I decided to lather up one cheek with green tube and within a couple of minutes the stinging and burning ret...

First off, thanks to Johnnie for those links, I had read two of them but found the third very interesting and informative and thanks to the rest as well for your comments. I've mulled over this again today. I really would much prefer to buy my last brush first as it is much less expensive in the end...

It's not easy being green......
I think Kermit spoke those words and I concur regarding Proroso green tube. It was fine if somewhat cool during the shave but afterwards was not pleasant for me. Stinging, burning cold for what seemed like at least a couple of hours. I also used the pre/post cream in both time slots so that may have...

Ok, so that bristle brush I dug out of the closet.... some 20 years old now isn't performing to the standards I've discovered on this forum. It still works, even after my badly abusing it so many years ago. Yes, I was a DE shaver for quite a few years but like so many others followed the lead lemmin...

I don't have one yet but a Boye will be my next pocket knife with a drop point and either no serration or partial serration.

So here I am.... minding my own business, poking around the
net. and I trip across one of the fine merchants of wet shaving supplies. They of course had to have an extensive FAQ not to mention quite a few usefull articles about wetshaving and safety razors and straight razors. Oooh... neat, love to read about that "old" stuff. So here I sit at the ...
