I open the pot & sniff whenever I'm in the bathroom  Jefe, No need to be embarrased about that one as I'm sure plenty of gents are guilty of this little pleasure...I know I am. 8) I'm even guilty of going into the bathroom specifically to sniff a shaving soap from time to time. I like Har...

Interesting question: is the badger as good as it was 5 or 10 years ago? Maybe a yes and no answer. The variety of brushes available - and the variety of grades of badger, special types of super and best, three-band and two-band and super that feels like best and silvertip that's better than super, ...

Day 5 - Another day, another good shave. This one did result in slightly more stubble than the previous 4 days. I think as my technique improves I may be able to get closer with this blade on day 5. Regardless, a touch of irritation during the shave. A sort of sub-goal is to reach a point with these...

I am using Crystals right now for my fidelity "experiment." I used one for a fifth shave today, and I had a smooth shave, though not quite as close as the previous four days. I have been doing 3-pass shaves this week, so I'm 15 passes in. How many passes/shaves are you guys getting out of ...

Penhaligon's English Fern (last of sample)

I wonder if layering a lavender water with Musgo Real No. 2 would produce something close to English Fern, because I ain't buying a bottle at retail price.

Gents, thanks for the responses so far and feel free to keep 'em coming. Gordon, don't worry, I won't blame "the guys on SMF," I intend to place all the blame squarely on your shoulders. :) One person makes a better scapegoat than a whole forum. Really, though, interesting suggestions. I p...

My Wife's Birthday

Okay, gents, I know none of you know my wife, and scent is personal, and yadda yadda... But. My wife's birthday is coming up, and it's been awhile since I bought her any perfume (years?!). I'd like to get her something very good. So. When we met in college, she was wearing Anais Anais. At some point...

Jack, I was thinking the same thing. Quick Googling shows that grape seed extract is included in many common OTC ingrown treatments, from Tend Skin to some very high-end ingrown hair kits.

Now, why and how does it work? I'm going to have to read up, it appears.

Okay, so I'm going a bit longer than most on the second and third passes. I probably wouldn't need to, but if you've had an EJ Super massaging your face, you know why I linger a bit on lathering. :)

Day 4 was a pleasurable shave on all accounts. I got terrific lather today, I believe because my brush loaded up a bit better with just a touch more moisture in it. Face-lathered and had plenty for my 3-pass shave plus a final lather to towel in (and there was more that went down the drain). I reall...

Rich, I agree with Squire, I get 2 shaves per blade before the tugging begins. They ain't great, but good enough for the price I paid (3 cents each). I know there are other versions but I don't know much about them: I have the ones labeled "Super Stainless."

Doug, I have it and like it, but the longevity is...er...lacking a bit. :D

Goes great between Musgo Real cream and Musgo Real No. 2 cologne, though.

Face-Lathering: How long do you spend?

I've recently started experimenting with some face-lathering, and I'm wondering about the time frame for each pass. For me, the initial lather takes about two minutes from the time I put brush to soap: load up brush, lather onto face, dip brush in water and scrub a bit on face, probably add more wat...

That Greaves & Son is just gorgeous. Is it possible to have SRAD without having owned a straight razor? If so, this thread has brought it on for me, especially that last picture.

Ren, I'm inclined to agree. I like Hammam Bouquet, believe it could be my favorite scent, but $100+? I know, I know, if you amortize the cost it's not that expensive: a couple of dollars per wear. But there's a disregard, or worse, a disdain for the consumer that accompanies such purposeless price i...

You are probably noticing some trends here: Soap - MWF, Harris something or other, T&H Cream - Taylor, T&H I'll give you a different possible pair to consider: Tabac soap Musgo Real cream These scents will cover all seasons, the lather from either is superior, and you will, between them, hav...
