Bennay, To make things even more confusing, try ordering shipped via Canada Post or UPS. (Never use UPS when bringing items in Canada. Their "brokerage fees" are often as much as the worth of the product.) For us here in BC, it is usually faster and cheaper to order out of the US West Coas...

Welcome!

I am further West and have no problems getting any shaving product thanks to the interweb.

FYI - Vancouver has one of the best markets for shaving gear & colognes in Canada. That's not saying much... but better than being in Moose Jaw.

Cheers,

RR

Any fellow Tragically Hip fans? Always evolving. Admittedly, I prefer their older "rock" music, though do appreciate their softer eclectic music too. I could easily pick 20 songs but here is a decent cross section: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGRNEJiD3PY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9...

This has been a good recipe for me:

CLASSIC MANHATTAN

- - 2 ounces rye whisky, preferably Alberta Springs
- - 1 ounce red vermouth
- - 3 to 4 dashes of Angostura bitters
- - 1 to 2 maraschino cherries

Cheers,

RR

What music are you listening to lately?

I have been following The Black Keys - a throwback rock duo that introduced me to Junior Kimbrough's style of blues music. I have been listening to The Black Keys' Chulahoma (The Songs of Junior Kimbrough) and I have played a track nearly every day for the past 2 weeks. Ironically (or perhaps predic...

GFT - Soap Reformulation - Again

I read speculation that GFT is coming out with a new re-formulated shaving soap. Apparently, several of their soaps have not been available for some time. In addition, there have been unpackaged runs of Trumper's soap on EBay. I had little success with their shaving soaps. Given all the praise of th...

I wish I could get Trumper shaving soaps to perform at high quality levels. I don't care for the scents either.

I wonder with all this regulatory BS going on if it might encourage additional artisan perfumers to create all natural classic men's fragrances? Perhaps demand will get to where we at SMF no longer rave about familiar classic colognes, but artisan companies offering low volume/high quality natural s...

I don't like the Valobra/AoS clay scent as well.

If I recall correctly, Ralph Lauren's Safari shaving soap was a Valobra product too. I really wanted to like this soap as it performed well and I could detect the Safari fragrance, but the clay notes were too earthy for me.

Go with Squire's comments. By now, I have tried most common vintage shaving soaps - with the exception of Royal Fern. (Not so common...) Even though I own a good supply of Yardley shaving soap, I am not sure it is worth the prices I paid for it. IMO, many current top quality soaps such as Harris, MW...

Thanks for all the well wishes. I am testing the sample soap all this week. Although the soap initially lathers really well, there appears to be tweaks required in terms of cushion and lather stability. If there's one thing I do know, a properly developed product usually takes time. That said, I am ...

Finally!! Update - Tallow Soap Project

For those of you that remember, I have been trying to get my triple milled shaving soap project off the ground for nearly two years. Without getting into all the details, trying to get this soap made through contract manufacturers has been very challenging. After nearly giving up, I decided to work ...

It's funny how when one experiences top calibre quality; everything else pales in comparison. Over the years of trying well reviewed classic fragrances, I have witnessed poor reformulations time after time. Floris 89 and PdN New York's new formulas particularly irk me. Unfortunately, many people don...
