Am I correct in understanding that some of us actually have all of these memorized? Some pictures would help those of us who don't seem to be able to stay as up-to-date on all offered variations of all shaving brush handles. I'm totally in the dark here, which is not unusual for me, of course.

Congrats on the 2 year anniversary. The summer of '08 was approximately the time when my Schick Krona wore completely out after being used off and on for about 38 years, and I didn't know what to do. Then, from a most unexpected source, (my daughter) I learned that there were lots of guys still inte...

I used to wonder about this, as I became aware of the in-the-bowl/ grating into a glass bowl with a lid issue. This sounds kind of dorky, but it helps me explain how I see it. Getting the bowl symbolizes a "committment". Almost all of the soaps I've just wanted to "use" have been...

Gary, I can't see the advantage of that. To me, the luxurious feel of the brush against my face is half the pleasure of shaving. Moreover, the mechanical action of the bristles helps work the lather into my beard and soften it. The very first time I used a brush vs. applying shave cream by hand I n...

I find it almost impossible to stay with only one cream or soap product for even a week. I did recently stay with one for about 10 days, it took a lot of effort, and I'm proud to claim that small victory. I'm currently embarking on a planned month-long stint with my friend Castle Forbes Cedarwood. I...

No blade rated over 7.5 :( Check again, Feather blades have been rated at 8.0, even though they don't seem to last as long as some others, and there are several rated lower than that. The number is purely for purposes of rating them as compared one to another. Squire could have used 10 or 100, but ...

Gary, I'm curious. With both the Cella and P160 being soft Italian soaps, how did you blend them?. Did you just take a piece of each and press them into the same bowl?. I have both on hand and would like to give that a try. I tried shredding a puck of Williams and Col Conk together, which was a rec...

it makes me wonder where did we go wrong as a society? A. Did we? B. Who's "we"? C. The rhetoric on freedom & liberty (which of course are essential, but "part of a complete breakfast" as the cereal ads said) has become so grossly exaggerated and contorted that it pushes peo...

I keep telling myself that if I ever happen to be near an AOS retail store, I will buy a puck of lemon shaving soap and a tube of Rose shaving cream. I must live in a part of the country where AOS hasn't seen a market. I don't travel much, but at least this gives me a hypothetical destination to kee...

Shaving experimentation: What do you do?

I love what we call "wet" shaving. I look forward to it every day. I like to experiment with different products, tools, and techniques. When I find something that really pleases me, I try to incorporate the new into the routine, among the old tried and true. So far, I've got several, and y...

The past few days I've had occasion to go brushless with two very nice and luxurious shaving creams, one being the one I'm addicted to, Castle Forbes Cedarwood Sandalwood, and the other, a wonderful tub of Truefitt & Hill Lavender. I've used both a DE and a SR with these two creams, and both hav...

Chris, thanks. I'll give it some serious consideration. I'll drop you a PM in a few days. That's very kind of you to offer. I've concluded two things: It's closer to a wedge than I realized. I've probably been using the wrong concept and approach to sharpening it. Second, the blade is physically thi...

This has been an interesting experience. I've gone from blaming my own skill at honing and stropping, to blaming the steel, back to facing the fact that I did overhone this particular razor in my seemingly endless quest for a sharp blade, then back to the realilty that after I re-honed and corrected...
