Re: Razor bumps where I *don't* shave? Possible?

A vague hunch (if you're still paying attention to this thread): something happening on the border of where you shave could be due to inadequate rinsing, or too much aftershave etc - "runoff", if you will.

D. R. Harris Soap

This product comes in several different fragrances. I will let others describe the scents. Trust me, it's better that way. :) Choice of fragrance makes no appreciable difference in the shaving performance (I've tried all of them except the latest one). Itemized review: This product is close enough t...

Not-quite-a-review of not-quite-a-shaving-cream

This is for those times when you arrive somewhere, need a shave, but haven't brought a brush with you - and it's probably not for those with dry or sensitive skin. Noxzema (I don't mean their shaving cream, but the original Noxzema product in the large blue cylindrical tub) can reliably prepare you ...

Re: HOW ABOUT THAT JAWLINE??? TRADE SECRETS???

Another possible angle for you to consider (note the cleverly-prescient pun) :) : You get generally a good shave, right? That means, for you and for me, the jawline is a geometry problem more than a shaving problem. Whichever direction your shaving strokes are going, you may need to change it for th...

For future reference: Гель для бритья = Gel' dlya brit'ya = Gel for shaving Крем для бритья = Krem dlya brit'ya = ... you get the point (Handwritten/cursive-style Russian looks very different, just as handwritten English looks very different - that's why almost the same words on the Tum tube look so...

Re: Huge News:Re-Reformulated Penhaligon's Soaps

You have been away a while, Dave! Be comforted by the fact that we have a broad variety of very good soaps available, some a little easier to get than others, but at least available: Still have Harris and MWF, Tabac, Speick, La Toja, Palmolive, etc., and (in my own limited experiences, others can l...

Re: Huge News:Re-Reformulated Penhaligon's Soaps

Well. I've been away a while. I've felt embarrassed over the fact that I have quite a lot of shaving soap stashed here. (TBH, it's many many years' worth.) Harris and Mitchell's mostly. As I said, I felt embarrassed about it. Now I feel embarrassed - AND a bit smug. And, in addition, unhappy for tho...

Re: new idea to make great lather!!!

- I may be wrong, but I don't think soaking a badger brush has any useful effect; no harmful effect either of course (unless the brush has a defect to be aggravated by staying warm & wet longer). - Whatever method of removing some water from the brush (shaking, pumping motion, wiggling, waggling...

Re: new idea to make great lather!!!

Are you saying, in essence, "Don't shake out all the water, just some"? Or are you saying "Leave the brush really dripping wet"? I have been shaking out some but not all of the water, for a long long time. Each brush I've tried seems to have a different "just right" amo...

Re: Dyson fans

...Is it the Vitamax of fans? I don't have any real knowledge of fans other than the obvious, but I think the answer to your question is almost always a clear-cut "No". Exceptions in my opinion: - if the increased safety of having no fan blades is very important in your situation - for ex...

Re: Linux

I've heard good things about Arch--I'm curious about it. If you're a somewhat-experienced Linux user, it's very nice, easy to manage day to day, and its packages are kept up to date extremely well. Pacman (Arch's package manager) handles dependencies better than most, and updates are generally very...

Drive safely. A close shave is good - as long as it stays on your face where it belongs.

Hope you soon feel well enough that getting up when you want to is not a problem - not just for the shave, but for better days ahead in general.

Just came back for a quick look, and saw this thread. I haven't posted anything useful for a long time, but I want to "pile on" and add a note of agreement. It seems to me that part of what's good here is that most of the members take the topic seriously (within reason), without taking the...

Re: Cartridge razor

So I was thinking to buy something handy for travel and just for quick shave. What you would recommend ? I am looking at Gillette Trac II or Sensor Excel. Watch out - don't boil a razor that has any rubber or plastic parts, or one that has a fragile finish (old lacquer for instance) on the metal. You can boil a razor that's plain nickel plate, but do you really need to? Boiling will only loosen the dirt. Boiling can be useful, but it's way over-rated....

I wish I was capable of the math needed to determine how long it would take to fill that can. Re: Worst single shave???!!!

Do you remember the worst single shave you ever had? Do you have any ideas why it was the worst? Do you remember when? I was a recent - but not TOO recent - newbie in shaving with a double-edge razor. I had acquired a Futur. And some Feather blades. And decided to open the adjustment knob a little ...

Murray +1 Just to add to this, my theory is that if you use a 2 pass shave WTG & ATG then the hair folicle should be cut evenly each side leaving a point in the centre of the hair thus allowing easy passage through the skin. But with a single pass the tug and cut action leaves a sharp point to ...

No, a particular razor does not cause bumps. "Cause" is the wrong word; this matters, I'm not nit-picking. At one time I used a Fusion for three weeks straight, and had no bumps. A couple of years before that, I used a Mach 3 on an every-day basis, and no bumps either. I was , however, eas...
