I re-read sgtrecon212's opening post, and think the C&E Best will be somewhat redundant (not necessarily a bad thing) with the SCS Best. Both of these would be Best badger hair and have a 22mm knot. The biggest difference is the handle, with the hiar's shape being another. With the Omegas being ...

Another brand suggestion would be Omega. You can find a few for around $40. If you bump up your budget (I know - not always easy) another $10, a couple more Omegas fall in (e.g., model #6215 with a 25mm knot in silvertip).

The Florena tube that I have has olive oil (olea europaea) as the tenth ingredient; glycerin is listed as the sixth. Mine, however, makes no mention of "new formula." The ingredient listing also shows potassium cocoate and sodium cocoate which are from coconut oil (I guess - from internet ...

Well, I got my tube of Palmolive in Germany. No reference to Aloe vera (A. barbadensis) in the ingredients, but palm extract (0.1%).

Green box & tube with the "European" green color for the cream itself.

I have had the oppposite reaction to your unfortunate situation. My face/skin looks better than it has in years! I agree with NTS that you need to not change too many things as you go, so you can isolate issues as products are introdiuced. Unscented products may be your best bet. To stay away from s...

There is also sensitive version that i've never seen in Canada: http://www.florena.de/images/produkte/fm_7001_gr.jpg I found the sensitive formula in a grocery market in Stuttgart, GE. I like it! The smell is pleasant enough -- a bit floral. I agree that it's sticky when not enough water is mixed in.

As I understand it, using a steel is like using a strop for a straight razor. It doesn't sharpen the knife, but aligns it. Comments? Randy If you follow the instructions above, then in a sense you are "sharpening" rather than aligning the edge. Most steels that come in a butcher's block a...

The Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker has ceramic stones; it is a very good, easy system. I use it on my pocket knives and kitchen knives. In the kit is the base, 2 medium grit hones, 2 fine grit hones, 2 brass rods (used for safety purposes), instruction booklet, and instruction DVD. With practice, you ...

Wouldn't a color that remained while lathered be strong enough to discolor your brush? I thought long and hard over coloring my shave creme and decided to leave them color free just for that reason. Once lathered, does the color in cream always rinse completely out of your brush? I believe there ha...

Jeff, Were you using the hypoallergenic? That's one of the most moisturizing soaps I've used (Between Williams, Colgate, Burma, and a handful of homemades, anyway) I have not had any of evidence drying -- at least not more than any other soap that I've used. So, I'm obviously lucky that it's compat...

I can buy it locally for about 95¢ per cake. I have no problem developing a lather on par with my other touted glycerin & tallow-based soaps.

I've used both the Ambrosia and the Razorantium. They're definitely a different breed of product. I found that they stuck more to my straight razors (I don't use a DE). I suppose I could say it saves time not having to lather it up too. Obviously, these aren't aimed at individuals more interested in...

My first straights were the Timor Blue Steel & the Filarmonica Doble Temple 7/8 from Classic Shving. Definitely get the honing done like you're going to. A strop is required once you use the straight, but the hone can be acquired a little later (depending on your stropping technique, beard tough...
