For what's it worth from yet another new guy, I found the Derby to be less effective in my '52 SS compared to use in Merkur HD or EJ DE89L. Of the blades I have used to date, Derby rates as a top contender. Enough so that I've acquired about 150 blades :P . In "another" forum there's a rec...

Chris, Congrats on your winning. I picked up a '52 SS in very good condition recently. Nice mild shave, will work my way up to sharper blades as time and my experience grows.Search on shave wiki, you'll find good photos and data on the Gillette line. My dad, may he rest in peace, had two G adjustabl...

Having just tried Trumper's Sandalwood cream for the first time after trying TOBS twice, I'm confused. Trumper's is way more subtle than TOBS and perhaps a better shave, but why such diverse interpretations of the same scent?. No mention of Edwin Jagger?. I tried a sample of the A/S lotion and was i...

IF it's anything like the cologne, RUN AWAY!. I tried the sampler when I stopped by to purchase good old green and thought it was in violation of the Geneva Convention.

Then again, that's just me.

Derby works very nicely in Edwin Jagger DE89L as I discovered today, though the lined elegance of the EJ handle not as confidence inspiring as knurled handle of Merkur.

Not attempting a thread hijack here, but how many Westerns or "cops n robbers" movies had a scene where the character seated in the barber's chair shot his opponent from under the barber's cape?

I tried a Derby in the Gillette yesterday and it is less effective than when used in the Merkur HD. Having proven that to myself, I will look to trying a "sharper" blade (7 O/C Yellow) next go round.

Welcome and congrats on your initial DE shaves. You did better than I with my nicks and weepers. As those wiser than I have said, give that boar brush time to break in. Pace yourself and you will be rewarded, progress not perfection is your goal.

Matching blade to a razor?

I've grown comfortable enough with a Derby in my Merkur HD that I'd like to try something new in the blade department (and justify my RAD) by working in newly acquired '52 Gillette SS and spanky new Edwin Jagger DE89 to the rotation. Still going slow and steady at the wheel. I'll take a comfortable ...

Also adding a "attaboy" for Gary at shoebox. He took the time to answer couple of my questions via email prior to purchase. I wish he'd offer larger lots of DE blades though.

Michael,

I haven't been to London since '72 when I studied theater production and stayed in the West End. I feel for the coming loss and doubt that I would recognize the city nowadays.

Introductions are in order

Good morning gentlemen, After a bit of lurking and finally registering, thought I'd say hello. There seems to be a certain level of maturity here that encourages me to post and ask more than one question typical of the newcomer to DE shaving. Though I should clarify that I gave it a try back in the ...
