This post made me chuckle and think about a recent conversation with my wife. I had made the point to her that going to DE shaving was going to save money for the blades compared to the M3's I was using. Well, I got the Weishi, had that less than a week, and then found a gillette for another $25. So...

Excellent timing as always, Squire. I have an order of the lime tub and a sampler pack on the way. I have not tried the tryphon, nor have I even ever tried a lime scent cream. At $10 a tub, it should be a steal. Now I'll be checking for a package every day when I come home from work, like a dog look...

Hi JD. Welcome to the forum and to DE shaving. I am relatively new too, so I know what you're going through. I applaud the fact you are doing all your homework to try and get it right. Anyway, my thought on the proper angle is to second the prior post listening for the sound. You'll hear this nice (...

mechanical question on gillette adjustable
I have a question regarding the adjustable part of the gillette. Can anyone tell me exactly what parts are supposed to move when you turn the knob? Is it supposed to be easily visible (to notice something moving)? It lines up great with the indicator, and has a nice click when I turn it, I just cant...

Familiar with Christy Razor?
Anyone familiar with this brand of antique razor? I came across a couple recently. It seems to be a single edge blade, and has a long thin handle. The company was out of Ohio. I'm not a collector, and if I dont plan on using it, I'm not very interested in buying it. But I am curious if anyone has in...

As for our friend, Squire -- yep, I knew he was joking (or opportunistic, either way is fine) How much its worth is a good question. Worth is only determined by how much someone is willing to pay. I saw one go for $800+ on the bay, but not to say that is the standard or market price for it. So...

date code decoder
Hi gents. I know I've seen it here in the forums, but for the life of me I cant find it now. Can anyone give me the date codes for gillettes, or direct me to it? What is an F? Thanks much...

gillette adjustable - toggle
Hi. I was in Boston this morning, checking out a vintage clothing store I had heard about. Looked in a case and noticed a gold tone gillette adjustable with a toggle bottom. I'm relatively new to the DE scene, so I dont know all the details to look for, but doors opened and closed fine, finish still...

Hey TD, welcome aboard. Were you getting decent results before using the DE? Absolutely. I could use a m3, a bic or a potato peeler and have a real BBS shave. Good cream, light action, dont wear out any spots at once, etc. I really just got tired of $ for cartridges, only to have them phase it out ...

"look ma, no styptic!"
My first DE shave was this morning! Proud to say, no nicks, cuts, burns or slices. Not a great shave, but pretty smooth. I got to work and found a spot or two of stubble, but not anything too embarassing. I've been wetshaving for quite a while, so at least I had proper preparation. Technique was dec...

Thanks for the warm welcome and the helpful replies. I do like the idea of eventually getting a vintage gillette. My concern at first was that I might get a klunker by not knowing exactly the right model or age, quality, etc. I will take a look at some on this sale forum. Thanks again. Looking forwa...

Merkur vs Weishi for first DE
Hi All. First post here. I've read all the posts and watched all the good videos. I've been wetshaving for a while now, but ready to switch to DE. Everyone says the Merkur HD, but one member really raved about the Weishi. I want to get the right razor, but dont mind saving some coin also. Is the con...
