Art o Shaving

The other night I found myself out and about with some time on my hands, so I wandered into the local Art of Shaving store to check out the soaps. I picked up a puck of the lavender and after only one shave I understand why it gets such positive reviews. The reason this is in General rather than Soa...

With less than a year into the wet shaving adventure, I have no preference and welcome all variations with equal enthusiasm.

Give me your soaps, your creams, and everything in between yearning to be lathered!

Re: NOS Old Spice shave soap

Also, P&G is already tying up their efforts in the wet shaving area in Art of Shaving. The Old Spice brand does not really fit with the AOS image.

Thanks for the clarification on both counts. With your quote in the signature… well let’s just say I once knew a guy who tried to emulate too much.

Nice handiwork. I currently have no need of that much space, but I am slowly building up. Optimistically, I have many good years left to amass a stockpile to overload a cabinet like that.

A somewhat belated welcome to SMF! Regarding your original inquiry about lathering in a bowl, I have a small inexpensive ceramic bowl which is very smooth. Prior to obtaining it, I had tried a plastic bowl which had a slightly textured bottom. I found the lather built more quickly in the plastic, bu...

Welcome, welcome. It is a lovely collection, thank you for sharing. Bacardi 151 is a must for a shave kit like an alum block! You guys don't have a bottle in your dens? Please tell me that 151 is not for pre-shave consumption. I am also curious about the electric soup terrine. Nothing like bisque af...

Sounds like Chicago.

I have no desire to try cartridges again. I know they work for some, but I am going to check bags for some upcoming trips so I can pack some blades.

I just unearthed a big chunk of my music collection, so this thread is timely. If you missed him in the 60’s or his resurgence of the mid 90’s, let me introduce you to Esquivel!

In my experience too many people in business do not get the concept of a brand. I am sure that this is partly due to a brand being conceptual and not easily defined. It is more than a name or a logo; it is more of an expectation. So you cannot buy the Coates name and put out something that does not ...

I have had lousy shaves, but nothing off the charts that stands out. Worse cut I ever had was when I was a kid and should not have had a razor against my face in the first place. Curiosity is sometimes the harbinger of accidents and I cut my chin pretty bad. Otherwise, my worst shaves have involved ...

I have not tried the shaving soap or the deodorant, but I am curious about both. What I could dig up on the soap shows a mixed bag. Apparently it can be finicky with the water ratio and supposedly the alum dries things out a bit. However, the alum in the soap avoids irritation. Perhaps someone with ...

Nice set, congrats on the acquisition. I am drawn to those butterscotch colored handles. I suspect the they look nicer in person. Wonder why they stopped making them? They didn't. It's a colour change that comes with years of aging of the catalin handle. Chris Thank you for the information. Some fo...

Nice find. I enjoy using my Featherweight, but I did not know they made a "gold" version. Regarding the blade dispenser, I have not used one so I cannot say for sure. My guess would be that it was not intended to be reloaded per se, but you could probably load blades into it by carefully b...

I hope you didn't dislodge any of that stuff. <shudder> The previous owner offered to rip it off the ceiling, to which I offered a polite but forceful "No, thanks." I got in touch with a certified asbestos abatement contractor to come remove it in line with EPA requirements - thus it's go...
