Re: Surfing the river in Canada

Come to think of it the tidal bore in the Bay of Fundy flows up the Petitcodiac River in Moncton, New Brunswick and this has attracted many surfers. Several years ago two surfers from California rode the bore for 20 miles up the river.

Re: Surfing the river in Canada

I can’t help you much. Even though I lived in Montreal for 6 years I rarely went near the St Lawrence River. It wouldn’t surprise me that people are surfing the River, but it is a major route for oceangoing vessels transiting from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes. Apparently the current of the ...

Re: What's for supper?

Tonight we’re having friends for dinner, so we’re going whole hog: grilled beef tenderloin with a garlic, rosemary and peppercorn rub, accompanied by asparagus, wild rice and butternut squash. For starters it’s a smoked salmon salad and afters it’s cheese (Stilton and old English cheddar) and cracke...

Re: Canada Shaving Soap

This morning I added three drops of Lavender EO to my lather bowl and then built the lather. It worked very well. Got a great lavender scented shave. Makes me think I will buy a couple more EO’s to add when I feel like it. Maybe lime and sandalwood?😊 I am reluctant to try this soap even though it’s...

We don't have aubergines in the US. We have to make do with eggplant. :P

Aubergine sounds much more appetising than eggplant, at least to me.

How about that? I live in Oakville (pop. 200,000) and I’ve never heard of this company let alone seen any of their products.

Re: Green tea

I love mushrooms, but the only chitlins I’ve eaten are sausage skins. I do, however, like tripe and onions. I look forward to your report on green tea. I wonder if prolonged eating of green tea leaves can stain one’s teeth; drinking coffee, black tea and red wine can.

I don’t know about, or even heard of, eating green tea leaves. I do, however, like green tea ice cream.

Re: What's for supper?

Grilled Halibut with chips and coleslaw. This is the first time we’ve had the fish grilled in butter; usually it’s battered and deep fried. Unfortunately it was overdone and came out dry. We’ll go back to deep frying and remove the batter before eating; the fish is succulent and tender with this met...

Re: FYI....wet shave at T&F

Great video. I’ve never had a shave with a straight razor. The thought of it, even in the hands of a skilled professional, makes me cringe; they’re not called cutthroats for nothing. Note, the barber is bearded. I’ll be in London next month and perhaps I’ll pluck up enough courage to have such a sha...

Re: What's for supper?

Yesterday, Monday 3.14 was officially designated as pi day. My wife decides to have some fun with it, so she invited some family and friends over to eat PIE on pi day. It was great, we provided the salad and 3 pies - the other guests brought whatever kind of pie they wished. We had a total of about...

Re: What's for supper?

Tonight I’ll be making Turkish Red Lentil Soup/Stew for dinner tomorrow. This is my second attempt at this recipe. As with most soups and stews, I find their flavour deepens and becomes more complex a day or two after they’ve been made.

Re: What's for supper?

how did your chicken turn out? It was good, but the spicing needs to be amped up to suit our taste. The overall flavour is deep and well rounded, but both my wife and I thought it could do with a bit more Garam Masala and Madras curry. It was my first attempt at this recipe. In most cases I find th...
