Re: Cyril Salter solid shaving soap (tallow)

Afternoon All, I tried the Salter's soap today and it is indeed a very good soap. Made a thick, slick lather rather easily even in the hard water here. Gave a wonderful shave and equals the performance of soaps twice it's price. I'll keep going with it to see it's performance over time. An interesti...

Re: Cyril Salter solid shaving soap (tallow)

Hi All, I haven't tried the Salter's soap yet but intend to tomorrow. At the same time I ordered the Salter's I ordered the T&H Luxury soap to compare it to. If you recall this was one of those soaps that were all the same many years ago: T&H, Trumper's Officer and Gentleman, John Lewis, Vul...

Re: Cyril Salter solid shaving soap (tallow)

Hi Steve, Thanks! I'm glad that you got it and are enjoying it. Makes me look forward to trying mine. And I'll have my chance as it has just arrived. I have to say I've really been enjoying that old formula Culmak, just a superb lather with tons of slickness. And one thing I've noticed is that it sh...

Sure do miss Gordon. I fear the worst as well.

Here's hoping I'm wrong and he's relaxing in some leafy glade surrounded by loved ones and drinking something refreshing.

Re: Cyril Salter solid shaving soap (tallow)

Did this eventually come and if so what are your thoughts? I'm so intrigued I've ordered a cake myself. I've been using my old Culmak cake for the last few shaves in anticipation. That one is really nice as it's the old potassium stearate formula - now reformulated to something I know not what. I'm ...

Re: Dr. Selby's Lavender Luxury soap ingredients

Gary, Hopefully Tim sees this and chimes in, I think he's pretty knowledgeable about these things.

My own gut feeling is that they are being made to fess up about the scenting ingredients but it would be nice to see someone confirm.

Re: Dr. Selby is Back!

Phil, I dug it out last night and tried it this morning. I love the scent of it. It reminds me a lot of the old T&H Lavender cream scent, which is discontinued of course. Lathered up and had a great shave. I read someone saying that this is like the old palmolive stick in it's performance and I'...

You guys are inspiring me. I've got this buried somewhere and I can't recall if I liked it or not. Time to dig it out and give it a try again! Everything old is new.

Re: Taylor's Sandalwood

Chris, Yes, my bottle was old. I noticed the same thing regarding the scent changing, having a tub of the cream helped me distinguish that. The cream didn't seem to change as It is always kept in a closet in a cool environment. The little cream left smells very fresh and intoxicating. The wife notic...

Taylor's Sandalwood

Evening All, I ran out of my Taylor's sandalwood cologne from many years ago. I put it on my Christmas list last year and the Mrs. was happy to gift it to me. What the Sam Hill happened to this scent?!?!? It smells nothing like it used to! I got a tub of their Sandalwood shaving cream to go with it ...

desmoface wrote: Mon Feb 13, 2023 2:37 pm The only downside of ordering from Connaught is it takes a long time to get stuff in the US. I ordered my soap on 1/16, got my notification that it shipped on 2/6, and as of today, I am still waiting for delivery. Hopefully the soap is worth the wait. :D
I hope it's worth the wait too!

Roger, I hope you're pleased with both. I've no experience with their soap but I do with their creams. I love their French Vetiver cream and it is a top notch cream for me.

Enjoy!

Re: Mouthwash

Ed, when I was a kid we used to use the original listerine too. In fact, a few years ago while visiting my mother I found an unused glass bottle of it in the closet of the bathroom of my old bedroom. I took it home and used it up. I kept the bottle though as I miss the old glass bottles of things fr...

Re: Mouthwash

Hi Sam, I finished up that bottle I bought and went back to Listerine. Personally, I prefer the Listerine Cool Mint, for it's properties and taste. It seems to work longer for me. Also, therabreath seemed to leave a funny taste in my mouth that lasted for a while. I usually just drink water all day ...

Happy Birthday, Buzz! Enjoy all that good stuff to the fullest as well as rest of what life has to offer. I have to say I tried Peet's coffee on your suggestion and I do enjoy it most when I drink coffee, so thanks for that.

I wish you many more birthday's and good fellowship.

Re: Mouthwash

Sam, I bought a bottle yesterday and tried it last night. I will need to give it some time but first impressions are it's nice, but not as long lasting as Listerine Cool Mint which is my usual. I'll use this up and then go back to the Listerine and that should help give me a perspective. I'll let yo...
