Re: FYI....for the Scottish fans
Land's End to John o'Groats in an Austin Mini. It's been forty years and my butt still aches at the thought! Buzz But the aching butt was worth the drive and especially in the Austin Mini. Didn't that car have like 10" wheels on it. I do know that it was a very small vehicle that could turn on...

Re: balms aftershaves and other potions
Preshave oils are humbug! If anything I would do like Squire suggests and that is a minute or so with a hot towel wrapped around my face while in the shower. Seems to soften the beard a bit. But it is usually a few minutes after the towel treatment before I can start the shave so I don't think the h...

Re: One pass shave
In the last 6 months I have been doing a lot of single pass shaves. And most of them with a Gillette Fusion. Yep, I am a traitor! :D Not that I wanted to do this willingly but I have had some serious health problems as a result of diabetes for 30 yrs and smoking for 50 years. Just kill the kidney an...

Great execution of a needed accessory in the bathroom. I too like the towel bar on it.

A woman went to a K-Mart service counter and told the clerk she wanted a refund for the toaster she bought because it won't work. The clerk told her that he can't give her a refund because she bought it on special. Suddenly, the woman threw her arms up in the air and started screaming, "PINCH ...

Re: Baseball Bat
What I would like to know is what happened to the good ol fashioned wooden bat from Louisville Slugger. That is what we all wanted when I was a kid (a very long time ago). You know kids have big eyes. They want the current best and coolest things they can get to make life fun. He's gonna grow out of...

Re: Cast iron skillett
The stainless chain mail thingy will work but it is a big bit of overkill for what you want to accomplish. I have cleaned and re-seasoned plenty of CI cookware and even a few stove pipe dampers and all I use to get the gunk off the piece is a cheap stainless steel scrubby that can be bought at you l...

Can't take credit for this bit of wisdom, give it to George Carlin

Some recent tweets about marriage: Marriage is like the IKEA of relationships. Easy to walk into, confusing to piece together, and difficult to exit. Marriage is like a public toilet. Those waiting outside are desperate to get in.Those inside are desperate to get out. Marriage:is like going to a rest...

When I got my first couple CI pieces I bought a couple CI cookbooks. Got some great ideas for dishes from them. But after talking with some of my fellow CI collectors found that you can prepare just about anything in CI cookware. CI cookware can be used on the stove top, in the oven and broiler. Jus...

Re: I Considered Posting This on the Shutterbug Shaver forum
15-19 seconds in ---- you'll see it, in the bathroom cabinet. A nice chrome-handled boar shaving brush. Doesn't look fully broken in though -- no surprise by the sight of the scruff on the gentleman's face. FWIW -- I am quite fascinated by the new 500x. I had a 500L when we were in England last fal...

Beer, why is it good to drink? Sometimes, after playing golf, I reflect on all the beer I drink, I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be ...

Re: Cast iron skillett
Dave, I would not use the outdoor grill or anything but my oven to season the CI. Too easy to go overboard on the heat. Much easier to control in the oven and you get a much more even temp and heat. Understand the smoke that you seem to get. I have not had a problem with smoke while seasoning and it...

Re: Pasta alla Carbonara
Sounds good Chris, I prefer either pancetta or quanciale (gwan-chah-leh) instead of the bacon. Bacon is smoked and the others are not. Just not nuts about the smokey flavor compared to the unsmoked meats. But like in shaving YMMV.

Re: Cast iron skillett
For scrambled eggs, try heating the skillet first, then adding some oil, then the eggs. Prevents most sticking. Anything that does stick is easily wiped out with water and a sponge or mild scrubby. I have the same problem, or should I say my wife has the same problem with scrambled eggs and cheese....

Re: Cast iron skillett
Sorry to chime in so late. Wife and I have some cast iron cookware. Hangs on the wall in the pantry, on the wall in the dining room, on several book racks that I have converted to hold a few CI griddles and waffle irons. Most are vintage Griswold or Wagner CI pieces. For the most part I got all of t...
