Being a huge geek I usually read two or three books at once. Currently I'm reading the new Harry Potter, Weird in Pennsylvania and the latest in the Dragonlance series. I forget the name, but it's the most recent one. I'm currently looking for a historical biography of Julius Caesar, but haven't fou...

Just a few thoughts. First, could the outer shell be made of ceramic or glass. This way you could heat up water in a microwave and the ceramic would keep the heat longer. You could still keep the inner cup made of aluminum. This would help with heat transfer. Also, a lid might help keep the lather w...

Ok, Ok, I get it, Gillette Blades Suck!!

After reading several posts here about Gillette blades and how they stink, I decided to do a test. I broke down, went out and purchased a box of Merkur Platinum blades from the shop that I frequent. I got them for $7.00. I paid $9.59 for the Gillette blades. I initially chalked this up to Gillette b...

Me too, but the idea of a shave w/o any blood loss is almost unimaginable. One of the reasons I don't shave everyday is that I just can't deal with the anemia associated with losing that much blood. Everytime I shaved I felt I needed to have some OJ and a cookie. The Mach 3, up to this point, has gi...

Hello and welcome. You didn't say in your original post if you prefer cremes or hard soaps. I prefer cremes because they're ready whipped and require less work than soaps. If you're into the ritual of shaving then perhaps hard soaps would work best. I prefer Evelyn & Crabtree's sandlewood soap. ...

Yeah, no pressure has become my mantra when using the Vision. This last shave was definately an improvement, so hopefully as I progress, I'll be able to get my face to adjust to the difference in razors and eliminate most nicks and cuts all together.

I am trying to shave every three days. In the past though this has been problematic to say the least. My skin today feels pretty good though. No burning or stinging so I'll try to keep that schedule.

Big Difference

I thought I would follow up on my shaving experience with the Merkur Vision. I usually only shave once a week because of the irritation and ingrown hairs. Last night I had enough growth to accomodate a shave so I decided to try some of the tips I picked up here and see what difference, if any they w...

I also shave with a Vision and was just introduced to Baxters. I think that the balm works great although I would have to agree that the scent leaves a little to be desired. It kind of reminds me of Pledge furniture wax. I did get a sample of Sharps hydrating shave balm and while the scent is better...

Just thought I would throw my two cents in here. The inner liner, the one the cream actually sits in, is a softer plastic than the hard outer container. I believe that because it is softer it is easier to get a seal to keep the moisture inside. I never thought of using the outer plastic as a mixing ...

I'm going to go and purchase the Merkur blades today. I'll probably shave tonight to try some of the tips I got here.

If I'm still having a problem then I'll probably buy an HD or a Progress to cut down on the adjustability and get more practice with my technique.

Ok, I can see that the handle needs to be more parallel to the floor and I need to get rid of the gillette blades.

Luckily there is a store near where I work that sells the Merkur blades.

I will give that a shot and post my results.

Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate the help.

I have been using gilette blades in the razor. I lost the ones that came with it long ago. After reading some tips I have been using short slow strokes with the grain to get my face used to shaving with a different type of razor. I find that I have to have the razor open all the way to get a decent ...

Need help with Merkur Razors

Hello everyone. I have been lurking on this board for a couple of days and have finally registered. I have been wet shaving for years usually using a Mach 3, Trumpers cream soap or Crabtree & Evelyn's bowl soap and an extra large silver tip that I purchased from Shavemac. I had started my shavin...
